Parliament Of Aruba
The Parliament of Aruba ( pap, Parlamento di Aruba, nl, Staten van Aruba) is the unicameral legislature or parliament of Aruba. The parliament has 21 members, elected for a four-year term by proportional representation. Each member holds their seats until the parliament is dissolved, which is every four years by a general election. The leader of the party which gains a majority of seats usually becomes the Prime Minister of Aruba, Prime Minister. Results of most recent election 2021 The most recent elections were held on 25 June 2021, and resulted in a coalition government between the People's Electoral Movement (MEP) and RAIZ. Parliament building In 1975, the parliament building was opened for the Island council (Netherlands Antilles), Island Council of Aruba. Elections In Aruba
Aruba elects a legislature on the national level. The Estates (''Staten'') have 21 members, elected for a four-year term by Open list Party-list proportional representation. Seats are distributed between parties that have gained at least one full quota (1/21, or approximately 4.76% of the vote) using the Hagenbach-Bischoff system (a variant of the D'Hondt method). Before obtaining the status as land ( en, country in the Kingdom of the Netherlands, Aruba participated in elections for its Island Council and for the Aruba constituency of the parliament of the Netherlands Antilles. Aruba has a multi-party system, with two or three strong parties and a third party that is electorally successful. Aruban Patriotic Party
The Aruban Patriotic Party ( Papiamento: ''Partido Patriotico Arubano'', PPA) is a political party in Aruba. It was founded in 1949. Prior to Aruba's independence, it was a supporter of a unified, independent Netherlands Antilles. In the 2001 Aruban general election, the party won 9.6% of the popular vote and 2 out of the 21 seats. In the 2005 Aruban general election, it won 2.1% of the vote and no seats. Its share of the vote fell to 1.1% in 2009 and 0.9% in 2013. In the 2017 Aruban general election, it rose to 1.1% of the vote while running in conjunction with the Patriotic Progressive Union. The Aruban Liberal Organization (''Organisacion Liberal Arubiano'', OLA) is a liberal political party in Aruba. At the last elections for the Estates, 28 September 2001, the party won 5.7% of popular votes and 1 out of 21 seats. On 23 September 2005, the party won only 4% of the popular vote and lost its seat. Nelson Oduber
Nelson Orlando Oduber (born 7 February 1947) is an Aruban politician who served as the 2nd Prime Minister of Aruba. Following his defeat in the 2009 Aruban general election, Oduber retired from politics. Early life Oduber was born on 7 February 1947, at the Lago Hospital in San Nicolaas, Aruba to Urbano Oduber and Carmen Felepina Croes. He was raised in a Catholic household and had a big family, consisting of 9 sons and 4 sisters. They lived in the Siribana neighborhood in a regular well mannered home. His father worked for Lago Oil and Transport Company and his mother took care of the children. Tragedy struck the family of 15 when his father, who was working for W.E.B at the time, was struck by a high voltage of electricity and received severe burns to the skin, and died on 14 January 1964, leaving behind his wife and 13 children.
