2005 AFL Under 18 Championships
The 2005 NAB AFL Under-18 Championships was the 10th edition of the AFL Under 18 Championships. Eight teams competed in the championships: Vic Metro, Vic Country, South Australia and Western Australia in Division 1, and New South Wales/Australian Capital Territory (NSW/ACT), Northern Territory, Queensland and Tasmania in Division 2. The competition was played over three rounds across two divisions. Vic Metro and Tasmania were the Division 1 and Division 2 champions, respectively. The Larke Medal (for the best player in Division 1) was awarded to Victoria Metro's Marc Murphy, and the Hunter Harrison Medal (for the best player in Division 2) was won by Tasmania's Grant Birchall. Marc Murphy (footballer)
Marc Murphy (born 19 July 1987) is a retired Australian rules footballer who played for the Carlton Football Club in the Australian Football League (AFL). He was recruited with the first overall selection in the 2005 AFL draft and served as the captain of Carlton from the 2013 season to 2018. He is the son of John Murphy. Early life and junior career Murphy attended Whitefriars College in Donvale. He played for Beverley Hills Junior Football Club and Doncaster Football Club, before playing TAC Cup football with the Oakleigh Chargers. He represented the victorious Vic Metro team at the 2005 AFL Under 18 Championships, winning the Larke Medal as the best player of the tournament. As the son of John Murphy, a Hall-of-Famer and legend of the Fitzroy Football Club, Marc was eligible to be taken by the Brisbane Lions under the father-son rule. Andrew Swallow (born 2 June 1987) is a former professional Australian rules footballer who played for the North Melbourne Football Club in the Australian Football League (AFL). He was the captain of North Melbourne from 2012 to 2016 before retiring in 2017. David Dickson (footballer)
David Dickson (born 12 May 1952) is a former Australian rules footballer who played for Carlton in the VFL during the 1970s. Dickson, who went to school in Coburg, played his early football in the VFA with Preston. He made his Carlton debut in 1972, the same game that Alex Jesaulenko celebrated his 100th, and finished the year playing on the wing in their premiership side. Gavin Urquhart (born 18 May 1988) is an Australian rules football player, who last played for North Melbourne Football Club. Uruquart was born in Mackay, Queensland and raised in Rockhampton where he played his junior football with the Glenmore Bulls. Wayde Mills
Wayde Mills (born 29 August 1987) is an Australian rules footballer in the South Australian National Football League, and formerly in the Australian Football League. Overview Mills played junior football with the Coolangatta Tweed Heads Australian Football Club before playing senior football with the Southport Sharks. He was recruited as the number 25 draft pick in the 2005 AFL Draft from Southport. He made his debut for the Brisbane Lions in Round 2, 2006 against Essendon. Sam Lonergan (born 26 March 1987) is a former professional Australian rules footballer who played for the Essendon Football Club and Richmond Football Club in the Australian Football League (AFL). He was drafted from the Launceston Football Club, via the Tassie Mariners U18s and the Tasmanian Devils, with selection 50 in the 2005 Draft. Nathan Jones (born 20 January 1988) is a former Australian rules footballer known for playing for the Melbourne Football Club in the Australian Football League.
