2004–05 Atlético Madrid Season
Atlético de Madrid had a largely disappointing season, where the club stalled in its progress towards the internationally qualifying positions. Despite Fernando Torres continuing to score more than a dozen goals per season, consolidating his status as Spain's top young striker, Atlético were only able to score 40 league goals. That rendered the successful defence of Luis Perea and Pablo Ibáñez vital just to keep the club in mid-table. Iván Cuéllar
Iván Cuéllar Sacristán (born 27 May 1984), nicknamed Pichu, is a Spanish professional footballer who plays as a goalkeeper for Sporting de Gijón. Formed at Atlético Madrid, he spent most of his career with Sporting de Gijón, where he made 221 total appearances. Club career Atlético Madrid Cuéllar was born in Mérida, Extremadura, and earned his nickname "Pichu" – local dialect for a young boy – from a cousin. Fernando Macedo da Silva Rodilla (born 20 April 1982), known as Nano, is a Spanish former professional footballer who played mainly as a left winger. He started out at Barcelona but, after only six competitive appearances with the first team, he went on to resume his career in both Segunda División and Segunda División B. In La Liga, he also represented Atlético Madrid, Getafe and Osasuna, amassing totals of 69 games and eight goals. Club career Nano was born in A Coruña, Galicia. Juan Carlos Aguilera Martín (born 22 May 1969) is a Spanish retired footballer. Having started his career as a right winger, he finished it at his first club, Atlético Madrid, as a right-back. During a professional career which spanned almost two decades he appeared in more than 500 games, 375 in La Liga. Aguilera represented Spain at the 1998 World Cup. Jorge Larena-Avellaneda Roig (born 29 September 1981), known as Larena, is a Spanish former professional footballer who played usually as an attacking midfielder. Marcelo Fabián Sosa Farías (born 2 June 1978) is an Uruguayan retired footballer who played as a defensive midfielder. His nickname is "Pato" – Spanish for duck – and he played professionally for clubs in five countries. Santiago Denia Sánchez (born 9 March 1974), commonly known as Santi, is a Spanish retired footballer who played as a central defender, currently manager of the Spain under-21 national team.
