Iban Mayo Diez (born 19 August 1977 in Igorre, Basque Country, Spain) is a former professional road bicycle racer. Biography Renowned as a climber, Mayo turned pro with in 2000, and became one of the Basque Country's prospects for glory. He stayed with Euskaltel-Euskadi throughout 2000–2006. The biggest result came in the 2003 Tour de France, when he won a stage up Alpe d'Huez. Mayo finished the Tour sixth. In 2004 Mayo won the Critérium du Dauphiné Libéré, regarded as preparation for the Tour de France. He beat Lance Armstrong by two minutes in a time trial on Mont Ventoux, breaking the record. He was seen as a dangerous outsider for the Tour de France in the same year. It turned out a disappointment, and after losing time due to a crash, he lost more in the Pyrenees due to injuries and mononucleosis. Mayo quit before the 15th stage. José Ángel Gómez Marchante (born 30 May 1980 in San Sebastián de los Reyes, Madrid) is a Spanish former road bicycle racer, who competed professionally between 2004 and 2010 for the , , and squads. His career highlight was his win in the 2006 Tour of the Basque Country, in which he took victory in the time trial on the final stage to clinch the general classification. In 2004, while riding for the Costa de Almería-Paternina team, he finished eighth in the general classification in the Vuelta a España. Vuelta Asturias
Vuelta Asturias is a professional cycle road race held in Spain in early May each year. The event was first run in 1925 but has not been held consistently until 1968 to present. Since 2005, the race has been organised as a 2.1 event on the UCI Europe Tour. On 25 April 2014, the Vuelta Asturias was suspended one week before its start due to the lack of funds and sponsors. The race returned in 2015, when a two-stage edition was won by Igor Antón (). Samuel "Samu" Sánchez González (born 5 February 1978) is a Spanish former professional road bicycle racer, who rode professionally in the sport between 2000 and 2017 for the and squads. He was the gold medal winner in the road race at the 2008 Beijing Olympics. In the following years Sánchez proved himself in hilly classics and stage races as one of the most important riders in the peloton. He was also known as one of the best descenders in the peloton. Iván Ramiro Parra Pinto (born 14 October 1975 in Sogamoso) is a Colombian former road bicycle racer, who competed professionally for Petróleos de Colombia, , , , Cafes Baque, , , and . Parra comes from a Colombian cycling family. His father, Humberto was a successful in the Vuelta a Colombia, his eldest brother was the Colombian climber Fabio Parra who won stages in the Tour de France and the Vuelta a España in the 1980s. His other brother (named after his father) Humberto was also a professional cyclist for several years. Parra started cycling as a mountain bike rider and was the Colombian national MTB champion in 1994. He represented Colombia internationally as a mountain biker but changed to road racing. Leonardo Piepoli (born 29 September 1971 in La Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland) is a former Italian professional road racing cyclist. He most recently rode for on the UCI ProTour, but had his contract suspended in July 2008 during the Tour de France amid allegations of the use of the blood boosting drug EPO in the team. Félix Rafael Cárdenas Ravalo (born November 24, 1973 in Encino, Santander) is a Colombian former road bicycle racer, who competed both as an amateur and as a professional between 1995 and 2014. He previously rode for UCI Professional Continental team until the team's demise in 2009. In the 2001 Tour de France, Cardenas took one of the biggest victory of his career on the mountainous stage 12. Oviedo (; ast, Uviéu ) is the capital city of the Principality of Asturias in northern Spain and the administrative and commercial centre of the region.
