2004 UEFA Super Cup
The 2004 UEFA Super Cup was the 29th UEFA Super Cup, an annual association football match contested by the winners of the previous season's UEFA Champions League and UEFA Cup competitions. The match was played at the Stade Louis II in Monaco on 27 August 2004 and contested by Porto of Portugal and Valencia of Spain. Porto qualified as winners of the 2003–04 UEFA Champions League, having defeated French team AS Monaco 3–0 in the final, and were appearing in the Super Cup for the third time, following victory in 1987 and defeat in 2003. Meanwhile, Valencia were appearing as winners of the 2003–04 UEFA Cup, following victory over another French team, Marseille. UEFA Super Cup
The UEFA Super Cup is an annual super cup football match organised by UEFA and contested by the winners of the two main European club competitions; the UEFA Champions League and UEFA Europa League. The competition's official name was originally the Super Competition, and later the European Super Cup. It was renamed the UEFA Super Cup in 1995, following a policy of rebranding by UEFA. It is not recognised as one of UEFA's major competitions. 2003–04 UEFA Cup
The 2003–04 UEFA Cup was won by Valencia in the final against Marseille. It wrapped up a league and UEFA Cup double for Valencia. Porto could not defend their title as they automatically qualified for the 2003–04 UEFA Champions League and also went on to win the final for their second European Cup title. Rafael Benítez Maudes (born 16 April 1960) is a Spanish professional football manager and former player who most recently managed club Everton. Benítez joined Real Madrid's coaching staff at the age of 26, going on to work as the under-19 and reserve team coach, and assistant manager for the senior team. He moved away from Real Madrid in 1995, but management spells at Real Valladolid and Osasuna were short-lived and unsuccessful.
