2004 Christchurch Mayoral Election
The 2004 Christchurch mayoral election was part of the 2004 New Zealand local elections. On 9 October of that year, elections were held for the Mayor of Christchurch plus other local government roles. Incumbent Garry Moore successfully contested a third term in office with a decisive majority. The second-placed candidate, Aaron Keown, received almost 50,000 fewer votes than Moore. Keown ran as an Independent, but contested the 2008 general election for ACT New Zealand, standing in the electorate. The third-placed candidate, Jamie Gough, was only 18 years old at the time. Kyle Chapman (New Zealand Activist)
Kyle Chapman is a New Zealand far-right political activist and the former national director of the New Zealand National Front (NZNF), a white nationalist political party. He has stood unsuccessfully three times for the Christchurch mayoralty: first for the NZNF (2004); then for the National Democrats Party (2007); and then for the Resistance Party (2013). Chapman founded Right Wing Resistance, a neo-Nazi group, in 2009. He said in March 2019 that he was no longer interested in such politics, and was focused on his family and spirituality, although at least one commentator was sceptical of this. History The People's Choice was founded as Christchurch 2021 to contest the 1992 local body elections after the amalgamation of several smaller councils into a larger Christchurch City Council in 1989, and brought under one umbrella Labour local candidates with independent centre-left and left. Garry Moore (mayor)
Garry Anthony Moore (born 8 January 1951) is a former mayor of Christchurch, New Zealand, serving from 1998 to 2007. Subsequently, he was a board member of the NZ Transport Agency. He is a 'South Island enthusiast'. Early life Moore was born in Palmerston North in 1951 and received his schooling there. He trained as an accountant; first at Palmerston North Technical Institute and then at Christchurch Polytechnic Institute of Technology. He had come to Christchurch through his love for vintage cars; the Vintage Car Club was founded in the city and rural roads around Christchurch are ideal for excursions in old cars. He met his wife, Pam Sharpe, while they were both studying at Christchurch Polytechnic. They were married in 1977 and have two girls and two boys. In the 1980s, he was involved in several schemes helping unemployed people. Whale Watch Ltd in Kaikoura is one such company that he helped set up. The Christchurch City Council is the local government authority for Christchurch in New Zealand. It is a territorial authority elected to represent the people of Christchurch.
