2004 Carolina Challenge Cup
The 2004 Carolina Challenge Cup was the first staging of the Carolina Challenge Cup, a preseason soccer tournament co-hosted by USL A-League side, Charleston Battery and USL Pro Soccer League club Wilmington Hammerheads. Held from March 20–March 28, the Cup featured two Major League Soccer clubs, one USL Pro Soccer League club, and one USL A-League club. Columbus Crew of MLS won the inaugural tournament on goal differential over D.C. United. Columbus Crew
The Columbus Crew, formerly known as Columbus Crew SC, is an American professional soccer club based in Columbus, Ohio. The Crew competes in Major League Soccer (MLS) as a member of the league's Eastern Conference and began play in 1996 as one of the 10 charter clubs of the league. The team is currently operated by an ownership group led by the Haslam family (also owners of the Cleveland Browns and Pilot Corporation) and former team physician Pete Edwards. The Haslam/Edwards group is the third ownership group in club history. The franchise was founded in 1994. Its stadium is Lower.com Field, opened in 2021. Chris Bagley
Chris Bagley (born May 20, 1980 in Weymouth, Massachusetts) is an American former soccer player. Career College and amateur Bagley played club soccer for South Shore United and Boston Lightning, and played college soccer at Saint Anselm College, earning All-American honors twice as well as being voted Northeast Ten Conference player of the Year in both 2000 and 2001. Bagley played for the Decatur Football Club an amateur over-30 men's squad. (D.F.C.) Professional Bagley most recently played with USL First Division side Portland Timbers. Jaime Moreno (footballer, Born 1974)
Jaime Moreno Morales (born 19 January 1974) is a Bolivian former professional footballer now serving as Youth Academy Technical Training Coach for D.C. United in Major League Soccer, and as the head coach of D.C. United's U-23 side. Moreno began his career at Club Blooming and then played for Colombia's Independiente Santa Fe before spending two seasons at the English club Middlesbrough. The rest of his career was spent at D.C. United apart from one season at the New York MetroStars in 2003, and he was the all-time leading scorer in Major League Soccer at the time of his retirement in 2010. On 22 August 2007, in a match against the New York Red Bulls, he scored his 109th MLS goal, surpassing the previous league record set by former Dallas Burn and Real Salt Lake forward Jason Kreis. Ross Paule
Ross Paule (born April 4, 1976) is an American former soccer midfielder, who last played for the Columbus Crew of Major League Soccer. Paule moved from Dallas, TX as a youth and joined the Memphis Futbol Club in Memphis, Tennessee. Paule also starred for Houston High School in Germantown, Tennessee where he was awarded the Commercial Appeal's Best of the Preps title. Paule played college soccer at Creighton University, but left only after three seasons, becoming one of the first players to leave college early for a jump to MLS. He was drafted 11th overall by the Colorado Rapids in the 1997 MLS College Draft, and became a regular right away, a starter by his second season, appearing in 19 games and starting seven. Frankie Hejduk
Frank Daniel "Frankie" Hejduk (born August 5, 1974) is an American former soccer player who played as a wingback and midfielder. At the club level he represented the Tampa Bay Mutiny, Bayer Leverkusen, St. Gallen, Columbus Crew, and the LA Galaxy. A full international between 1996 and 2009, he won 85 caps for the United States national team and represented his nation at the 1998 and 2002 FIFA World Cups. He also represented the United States at the 1996 and 2000 Summer Olympics. Hejduk serves as "Brand Ambassador" in the Crew front office. Chad Marshall (born August 22, 1984) is an American former professional soccer player. During his 16-year career, he played for Columbus Crew and Seattle Sounders FC in Major League Soccer. He was a three-time MLS Defender of the Year Award winner. Career Youth and college Marshall attended Rubidoux High School in Riverside, California, where he was an NCSAA All-American, ''Parade'' All-America selection, and ''Parades Best Defender in his senior year, and a ''Parade'' All-American his junior year.
