The 2003–04 Latvian Hockey League season was the 13th season of the Latvian Hockey League, the top level of ice hockey in Latvia. Nine teams participated in the league, and HK Riga 2000 won the championship. Latvian Hockey Higher League
The Latvian Hockey Higher League ( lv, Latvijas Virslīgas hokeja čempionāts), also known as the Optibet Hockey League ( lv, Optibet hokeja līga) since 2017 due to sponsorship by Optibet, is the top tier league of ice hockey in Latvia currently comprising seven teams. Previously it was also known as the Latvian Open Hockey Championships (''Latvijas atklātais čempionāts hokejā'') and the Samsung Premier League (''Samsung Premjerlīga'') from 2006 to 2008. The league was established in 1931. HK Liepājas Metalurgs, which played in the league between 1999 and 2013, has been the most successful team of the tournament, having won seven titles. Several former National Hockey League players have played in the league, including Latvians Kaspars Astašenko, Helmuts Balderis, Oskars Bārtulis, Viktors Ignatjevs, Artūrs Irbe, Aleksandrs Kerčs, Jānis Sprukts as well as imports Konstantin Pushkaryov, Rob Schremp. Ice Hockey
Ice hockey (or simply hockey) is a team sport played on ice skates, usually on an ice skating rink with lines and markings specific to the sport. It belongs to a family of sports called hockey. HK Riga 2000
HK Riga 2000 was an ice hockey team based in Riga, Latvia. The team had played in the LHL since it was founded. In 2004-05 and 2005-06 seasons the club also iced a team in the Belarusian Hockey League, and in 2005-06 finished 3rd. HK Riga 2000 was first foreign team to finish in top three of Belarusian Open Championship. The club has also played several years in the Continental Cup, winning silver in 2005-06 and 2007-08. Before the 2009-2010 KHL season the team was merged into HK Dinamo/Juniors Rīga, the farm club of KHL side Dinamo Rīga. ASK/Ogre was an ice hockey club in Ogre, Latvia founded in 2003. Their home arena was Vidzemes Ledus Halle. The team finished second in the Latvian championships in the 2003/04, 2004/05, 2006/07 and 2007/08 seasons. HK Liepājas Metalurgs
HK Liepājas Metalurgs was a hockey club based in Liepāja, Latvia that fielded multiple teams over the years competing in the Belarusian Extraliga (BXL), Latvian Hockey League (LHL), and Minor Hockey League Division B (MHL B). The club was dissolved following the conclusion of the 2012-13 season when primary sponsor, industrial company Liepājas Metalurgs, discontinued support for the club. HK Vilki Riga
HK Ozolnieki/Monarch (also HK Ozolnieki/Monarhs) was a Latvian ice hockey club from Ozolnieki, founded in 2008. Formally the club was established as HK Vilki in 2000, but the roots of the team date back to a team called ''AK-2'', founded in Riga in 1987. HC Zemgale/LUA
HK Zemgale/LLU are a Latvian professional ice hockey team that plays in the Mestis, the second tier of ice hockey in Finland and also Latvian Hockey Higher League. The team is based in Jelgava and play their home games at the Jelgava Ice hall. History The team was founded in 2002, shortly after the opening of the Jelgava Ice hall, in cooperation with the Ministry of Defence. The team was initially called ASK/Zemgale, and joined the Latvian Hockey Higher League, in addition the team also participated in Division 2 of the Eastern European Hockey League during the 2002–03 season.
