2003–04 Azerbaijan Cup
The Azerbaijan Cup 2003–04 was the 12th season of the annual cup competition in Azerbaijan with the final taking place on 9 May 2004. Twenty teams competed in this year's competition. Neftchi Baku were the defending champions. First round The first legs were played on September 20, 2003 and the second legs on October 5, 2003. Round of 16 The first legs were played on October 18 and 19, 2003 and the second legs on November 1 and 2, 2003. Quarterfinals The first legs were played on March 17, 2004 and the second legs on March 23, 2004. Semifinals The first legs were played on April 14, 2004 and the second legs on April 22, 2004. Azerbaijan Cup
The Azerbaijan Cup is a major association football competition in Azerbaijan. In its original form, it started in 1936, when Azerbaijan was a republic of the Soviet Union and it was not disputed by Azerbaijani teams in the Soviet league pyramid. Compared to cups in many other countries, Azerbaijan attracts considerably less public interest and even the cup final is rarely sold out. Consequently, the Association of Football Federations of Azerbaijan has experimented with the format in order to raise the profile of the cup. Format The clubs from Azerbaijan First Division (2nd tier) play in the First Round. The winners of that round advance to the Second Round, where the clubs from Azerbaijan Premier League (1st tier) join. For the quarterfinals and the semifinals, the round-robin system is used. Turan Tovuz PFC
Turan Tovuz ( az, Turan Tovuz) is an Azerbaijani football club based in Tovuz. The club won the Azerbaijan championship once, in 1994–1995. The club's home stadium is Tovuz City Stadium. History Founded by Vidadi Ahmedov on 23 February 1992, the club was the first Azerbaijani professional football club under the name of Turan Tovuz. However, since 1997, club found themselves slipping further and further down the table, which influenced by financial difficulties. In 2011–12 season, ended with Turan in 11th position in Azerbaijan Premier League, the club's lowest ever league finish. In 2012–13 season, Turan for the first time in their history relegated to the Azerbaijan First Division, after twenty years in top flight. Tofiq Bahramov Stadium
The Tofiq Bahramov Republican Stadium ( az, Tofiq Bəhramov adına Respublika Stadionu) is a multi-purpose stadium in Baku, Azerbaijan. It is currently used mostly for football matches. It served as the home ground for the Azerbaijan national football team until they moved to the Baku Olympic Stadium. It holds 31,200 seats making it the second largest stadium in the country. Penalty Shootout (association Football)
A penalty shoot-out (officially kicks from the penalty mark) is a tie-breaking method in association football to determine which team is awarded victory in a match that cannot end in a draw, when the score is tied after the normal time as well as extra time (if used) have expired. In a penalty shoot-out, each team takes turns shooting at goal from the penalty mark, with the goal defended only by the opposing team's goalkeeper. Each team has five shots which must be taken by different kickers; the team that makes more successful kicks is declared the victor. Shoot-outs finish as soon as one team has an insurmountable lead. If scores are level after five pairs of shots, the shootout progresses into additional " sudden-death" rounds. Balls successfully kicked into the goal during a shoot-out do not count as goals for the individual kickers or the team, and are tallied separately from the goals scored during normal play (including extra time, if any). Shafa Baku FK ( az, Şəfa Bakı Futbol Klubu), was an Azerbaijani football club from Baku. They were founded in 1998, and were promoted to the Top League the same year. In 2001 the club won the Azerbaijan Cup, beating Neftchi Baku 2–1 in the final. MOIK Baku is an Azerbaijani football club, based in Baku. MOIK was originally built around the same concept of military sports club as CSKA Moscow, CSKA Sofia.
