2003–04 Atlético Madrid Season
Atlético de Madrid firmly re-established itself in La Liga, thanks to a seventh-place finish. The season saw Fernando Torres taking another step towards superstardom, scoring 19 goals in the season during which he turned 20 years, which led to a call-up to the Spain national team for UEFA Euro 2004. The finish was still not enough to satisfy the owner family Gil, resulting in coach Gregorio Manzano unexpectedly getting the sack. Cosmin Contra
Cosmin Marius Contra (; born 15 December 1975) is a Romanian football manager and former player. Primarily an attacking-minded right-back, he was also deployed as a midfielder. He played professionally in three countries his own notwithstanding, mainly Spain where he appeared for Alavés, Atlético Madrid and Getafe, amassing La Liga totals of 188 games and eight goals. Fernando Macedo da Silva Rodilla (born 20 April 1982), known as Nano, is a Spanish former professional footballer who played mainly as a left winger. He started out at Barcelona but, after only six competitive appearances with the first team, he went on to resume his career in both Segunda División and Segunda División B. Juan Carlos Aguilera Martín (born 22 May 1969) is a Spanish retired footballer. Having started his career as a right winger, he finished it at his first club, Atlético Madrid, as a right-back.
