2003 Tripura Legislative Assembly Election
The 2003 Tripura Legislative Assembly election took place in a single phase on 26 February to elect the Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) from each of the 60 Assembly Constituencies (ACs) in Tripura, India. Counting of votes occurred on 1 March 2003. The results were ready within the day. The Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPI(M)), led by Manik Sarkar, won 38 seats and formed a Government in Tripura Highlights Election to the Tripura Legislative Assembly were held on February 26, 2003. Manik Sarkar
Manik Sarkar is an Indian communist politician who served as the Chief Minister of Tripura from March 1998 to March 2018. He is a Politburo Member of the Communist Party of India (Marxist). In March 2008, he was sworn in as leader of Left Front (Tripura), Left Front, the Tripura coalition government. In assembly elections held in 2013, he became the chief minister for the fourth consecutive time. Currently, he serves as the Leader of Opposition in Tripura Legislative Assembly. Sukumar Barman
Sukumar Barman (1 January 1952, in Kemtali – 10 March 2012, in Agartala) was an Indian politician. He was a prominent leader of Scheduled Castes in Tripura. Barman hailed from an impoverished fishing family in Sonamura district. His family sent him to live with an uncle in order to attend school, and he first came into contact with activist politics through the student movement. He completed his higher secondary examination in 1971. He went on to join the peasants' movement. Barman became a member of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) in 1976. Between 1978 and 1983, he served as elected village ''pradhan'' of Kemtali. He would become a member of the Tripura State Committee of the party. Anil Sarkar
Anil Sarkar (died 11 February 2015) was an Indian politician and member of the Communist Party of India (Marxist). He was a nine-term member of the Tripura Legislative Assembly representing the Pratapgarh assembly constituency. Political career Sarkar completed his post-graduation in Bengali language from the Calcutta University, West Bengal. In 1956 he joined the Communist Party of India and later in 1964, when the Communist Party of India (Marxist) was established, he joined the CPI(M). Rajeshwar Debbarma is a Tipra Indian politician from Tripura who won the election in 2003 as a candidate of Indigenous Nationalist Party of Twipra. He became MLA of Takarjala. Manik Dey (born 18 October 1952) is an Indian politician and member of the Communist Party of India (Marxist). Dey was a member of the Tripura Legislative Assembly from the Majlishpur constituency in West Tripura district. He was ex-minister of Power, Urban Development, Rural Development and Transport in Manik Sarkar Government. Sudip Roy Barman
Sudip Roy Barman is an Indian politician from Tripura. He served as the MLA of the Tripura Legislative Assembly from the Agartala constituency which he held since 1998 by winning four elections consecutively on INC ticket by handsome margins. In 2018, he contested from Agartala constituency and won on BJP ticket. On 7 February 2022, he quit BJP and resigned from his MLA post. On 8 February he joined the Indian National Congress in Delhi.
