2003 Texas Longhorns Baseball Team
The 2003 Texas Longhorns baseball team represented the University of Texas at Austin in the 2003 NCAA Division I baseball season. The Longhorns played their home games at Disch–Falk Field. The team was coached by Augie Garrido in his seventh season at Texas. The Longhorns reached the College World Series, where they recorded a pair of wins against Miami (FL) and a pair of losses against eventual champion Rice. Augie Garrido
August Edmun "Augie" Garrido Jr. (February 6, 1939 – March 15, 2018) was an American professional baseball player and coach in NCAA Division I college baseball, best known for his stints with the Cal State Fullerton Titans baseball, Cal State Fullerton Titans and Texas Longhorns baseball, Texas Longhorns. Garrido compiled a collegiate record of 1,975–951–9 and retired in 2016 as the coach with, at the time, the most wins in college baseball history. His win total was surpassed by Mike Martin (baseball coach), Mike Martin of the Florida State Seminoles in 2018. He took his programs to 15 College World Series, winning five of them: three with Cal State Fullerton and two with Texas. He is often considered to be arguably the greatest coach in college baseball history. Taylor Teagarden
Taylor Hill Teagarden (born December 21, 1983) is an American former professional baseball catcher. He has played in Major League Baseball (MLB) for the Texas Rangers from 2008 to 2011, the Baltimore Orioles in 2012 and 2013, the New York Mets in 2014 and the Chicago Cubs in 2015. Early life Teagarden graduated from Creekview High School in Carrollton, Texas in 2002. Teagarden attended the University of Texas at Austin, where he was a catcher on the Texas Longhorns baseball team. Frank Anderson (baseball Coach)
Frank Anderson (born February 14, 1959) is an American college baseball coach and former outfielder. He is the pitching coach at the University of Tennessee. Anderson played college baseball at Mid-Plains Junior College from 1979 to 1980 and University of Nebraska at Kearney from 1981 to 1982. He served as the head coach at Oklahoma State University from 2004 to 2013. Woodrow Landfair (born ''Stanley Wood Landfair II'' on November 9, 1982, also called "Pack") is an American novelist, and NCAA Champion athlete, known for pawning his 2005 College World Series ring, changing his name, and leaving on a used motorcycle to live as an itinerant laborer on what became a forty-eight state odyssey. Dustin Majewski (born August 16, 1981) is an American former college and professional baseball outfielder. College career After earning 1999 Class 4A Player of the Year honors and leading Brenham High School to the Texas state championship finals, Majewski enrolled at Blinn College, where he twice earned All-Conference and All-Region honors in 2000 and 2001. Majewski transferred to the University of Texas prior to the 2002 season. Outfielder
An outfielder is a person playing in one of the three defensive positions in baseball or softball, farthest from the batter. These defenders are the left fielder, the center fielder, and the right fielder. As an outfielder, their duty is to catch fly balls and ground balls then to return them to the infield for the out or before the runner advances, if there are any runners on the bases. As an outfielder, they normally play behind the six players located in the field. By convention, each of the nine defensive positions in baseball is numbered. The outfield positions are 7 (left field), 8 (center field) and 9 (right field). These numbers are shorthand designations useful in baseball scorekeeping and are not necessarily the same as the squad numbers worn on player uniforms.
