2003 Peterborough Municipal Election
The 2003 Peterborough municipal election took place on November 10, 2003, to elect a mayor, councillors, and school trustees in the city of Peterborough, Ontario. Sylvia Sutherland was narrowly re-elected in the mayoral contest. Results Mayor *Margeree Edwards was raised in the Welland area and attended Cornell University in New York, where she received a Master's Degree in communications and a Ph.D. in education (curriculum and instruction). She also holds a Bachelor of Science degree in nutritional science from the University of Guelph (1964). She taught at Brock University's College of Education before moving to Peterborough in 1979. She moved to Toronto in 1981 to work at the old City of York's health unit; after leaving this employment, she returned to Peterborough in 1989. In 1994, she started a communications company. She has also co-ordinated the Ontario Drug Awareness Partnership, and in 2000 she authored a book entitled ''First I bought a Paddle: A Beginner's Guide ...

Peterborough ( ) is a city on the Otonabee River in Ontario, Canada, about 125 kilometres (78 miles) northeast of Toronto. According to the 2021 Census, the population of the City of Peterborough was 83,651. The population of the Peterborough Census Metropolitan Area (CMA), which includes the surrounding Townships of Selwyn, Cavan Monaghan, Otonabee-South Monaghan, and Douro-Dummer, was 128,624 in 2021. In 2021, Peterborough ranked 32nd among the country's 41 census metropolitan areas according to the CMA in Canada. The current mayor of Peterborough is Jeff Leal. Peterborough is known as the gateway to the Kawarthas, "cottage country", a large recreational region of the province. It is named in honour of Peter Robinson, an early Canadian politician who oversaw the first major immigration to the area. The city is the seat of Peterborough County. Peterborough () is a cathedral city in Cambridgeshire, east of England. It is the largest part of the City of Peterborough unitary authority district (which covers a larger area than Peterborough itself). It was part of Northamptonshire until 1974, when county boundary change meant the city became part of Cambridgeshire instead. The city is north of London, on the River Nene which flows into the North Sea to the north-east. In 2020 the built-up area subdivision had an estimated population of 179,349. In 2021 the Unitary Authority area had a population of 215,671. The local topography is flat, and in some places, the land lies below sea level, for example in parts of the Fens to the east and to the south of Peterborough. Human settlement in the area began before the Bronze Age, as can be seen at the Flag Fen archaeological site to the east of the current city centre, also with evidence of Roman occupation.
