2003 Osun State Gubernatorial Election
The 2003 Osun State gubernatorial election occurred on 19 April 2003. PDP's Olagunsoye Oyinlola won election for a first tenure, defeating Incumbent Governor, AD's Adebisi Akande and ANPP's Lai Oriowo. Olagunsoye Oyinlola won out of over 22 PDP governorship aspirants at the primary election. His running mate was Olusola Obada. Electoral system The Governor of Osun State is elected using the plurality voting system. Results A total of three candidates registered with the Independent National Electoral Commission to contest in the election. Olagunsoye Oyinlola
Ọlagunsoye Oyinlọla (born 3 February 1951) is a retired Nigerian general, he became governor of Osun State in Nigeria in May 2003, and was reelected in 2007. He was a member of the ruling People's Democratic Party (PDP). On 26 November 2010 a court of appeals nullified his election. He later defected to the APC shortly before the 2014 Osun State governorship election. He was former military administrator of Lagos State. Background and education Omoba Ọlagunsoye Oyinlọla was born on 3 February 1951 into a royal family in Okuku, in the Odo Ọtin Local Government Area of Ọṣun State. Olusola Obada (born 27 June 1951) is a Nigerian politician and lawyer. She served as the Deputy Governor of Osun State from 2003–2010, as Nigeria's Minister of State for Defence from 2011–2012 and then as Nigeria's Minister of Defence from 2012–2013 under the Cabinet of President Goodluck Jonathan. Alliance For Democracy (Nigeria)
The Alliance for Democracy is a progressive opposition political party in Nigeria. It was formed on 9 September 1998. At the 2003 legislative elections, 12 April 2003, the party won 8.8% of the popular vote and 34 out of 360 seats in the Nigerian House of Representatives and 18 out of 109 seats in the Nigerian Senate. The party was formed to promote the cause of the Yoruba people in the Nigerian federation following the annulment of the June 12, 1993 presidential election widely believed to have been won by Chief M. Plurality voting refers to electoral systems in which a candidate, or candidates, who poll more than any other counterpart (that is, receive a plurality), are elected.
