The 2003 season of the Bhutanese A-Division was the ninth recorded season of top-flight football in Bhutan. 10 teams competed, and the championship was won by Druk Pol, their second title in a row and seventh in the last eight seasons. It is assumed that Veterans were promoted having won the final of the B-Division. A-Division (Bhutan)
The Bhutan Super League, previously known as the Thimphu League and Bhutan A-Division, was the men's football league in Bhutan. Until 2012, it was the lone national top division. Between 2013 and 2020, it was played as the second division and the qualifier for the Bhutan Premier League. History The Thimphu League has taken a number of formats during its history. Initially, the competition was held as a single round-robin group of matches, with all games being held at the national stadium, Changlimithang. In 2001, the format of football played was very similar to the later set up of a Thimphu league, including Paro taking part in a qualifying contest to join other teams from different Dzongkhags for a genuine national league. The Druk ( bo, འབྲུག, dz, ་) is the "Thunder Dragon" of Tibetan and Bhutanese mythology and a Bhutanese national symbol. A druk appears on the flag of Bhutan, holding jewels to represent wealth. In Dzongkha, Bhutan is called ''Druk Yul'' "Land of Druk", and Bhutanese leaders are called Druk Gyalpo, "Thunder Dragon Kings". Bhutan (; dz, འབྲུག་ཡུལ་, Druk Yul ), officially the Kingdom of Bhutan,), is a landlocked country in South Asia. Druk United
Druk United FC was a Bhutanese football club from Thimphu and based at the Changlimithang Stadium, which played in the Bhutan Premier League, the top division of Bhutanese football. History 2002 to 2012 Druk United's first recorded instance of participating in football in the Bhutanese pyramid, was during the 2002 season, when they competed in the B-Division. With four wins and one loss from their five games in the group stage, they topped the group, finishing two points ahead of second place team, Sharks FC. The lost 1–0 to eventual runners-up Yeedzin, but won the third place playoff to finish third overall. This third-place position was evidently enough to secure promotion to the top division of football in Bhutan for the first time. Ranjung United was a football club from Bhutan, based at Changlimithang, that played in the Bhutan A-Division, then the top level of football in Bhutan, but since replaced by a full national league. Druk Pol FC
Drukpol FC, sometimes referred to as Druk Pol FC, was a football club from Thimphu, Bhutan. Until 1996, the team was called Royal Bhutan Police FC. Drukpol FC has won the A-Division championship a record eight times, more than any other team in Bhutan. The team's home ground was Changlimithang Stadium. History 1980s and 1990s Drukpol took part in the first recorded season of league football in Bhutan in 1986, playing under the name Royal Bhutan Police. The league was played on a single round-robin basis and Drukpol finished fourth with four wins and two draws from their nine games. There are no recorded results for any form of competition in Bhutan between 1987 and 1995, so it is not known whether Drukpol competed at all during that period. Transport United
Transport United Football Club is a Bhutanese professional football club based in Thimphu that competes in the Bhutan Premier League, the top level of Bhutanese football. The club was founded in 2001 and plays at the Changlimithang Stadium. Transport United has won five national championships, and was a dominant force in Bhutanese football throughout much of the first decade of the 21st century. In the 2017 season, the club won the title after completing an entire season undefeated, and hence qualified for the AFC Cup for the first time. History 2002 to 2004 Transport United made their debut in the 2002 A-Division. Their final position is not known, and the only known result for them for that season was a 5–1 loss to Thimpu.
