During the 2002–03 English football season, Sheffield United competed in the Football League First Division. Season summary The season turned out to be one of the most successful in Sheffield United's history. United reached the semi-finals of both the FA and League Cups before being eliminated by Arsenal and Liverpool respectively; both sides went on to win the respective cups. United also managed to qualify for the play-offs for promotion to the Premiership. United reached the play-off final after beating Nottingham Forest over two legs in the semi-final, but were beaten by Wolverhampton Wanderers. Sheffield United F
Sheffield is a city in South Yorkshire, England, whose name derives from the River Sheaf which runs through it. The city serves as the administrative centre of the City of Sheffield. It is historically part of the West Riding of Yorkshire and some of its southern suburbs were transferred from Derbyshire to the city council. It is the largest settlement in South Yorkshire. The city is in the eastern foothills of the Pennines and the valleys of the River Don with its four tributaries: the Loxley, the Porter Brook, the Rivelin and the Sheaf. The Premier League (legal name: The Football Association Premier League Limited) is the highest level of the men's English football league system. Contested by 20 clubs, it operates on a system of promotion and relegation with the English Football League (EFL). Seasons typically run from August to May with each team playing 38 matches (playing all 19 other teams both home and away). Peter Ndlovu
Peter Ndlovu (born 25 February 1973) is a Zimbabwean football coach and former professional player who was most recently the team manager at South African Premier Division side Mamelodi Sundowns. As a player he was as a striker from 1988 until 2011, notably spending time in England and more specifically in the Premier League with Coventry City as well as in the Football League for Birmingham City, Huddersfield Town, and Sheffield United. The rest of his career was spent in his native Africa with Highlanders, Mamelodi Sundowns, Thanda Royal Zulu, Highfield United and Black Mambas. He was capped 81 times for his country, scoring 37 goals. Since retirement, Ndlovu has moved into coaching and has worked as assistant manager of Zimbabwe, before returning to Mamelodi as the club's team manager. Thomas John Mooney (born 11 August 1971) is an English former professional footballer who played mainly as a striker. He made more than 600 appearances in the Football League and Premier Leaguewith 250 for Watford and more than 100 for Scarboroughand scored in each of the top four divisions of the English football league system. Philip Nikodem Jagielka ( or ; born 17 August 1982) is an English professional footballer who plays as a centre-back for club Stoke City. Jagielka started his career with Sheffield United in 2000, where he played mainly as a central midfielder. He helped them achieve top-flight status for the 2006–07 season, after which he joined Everton for a £4 million fee. He later captained the club from 2013–2019, and totalled 385 games. He left Everton in 2019 after 12 years and returned to former club Sheffield United. Jon-Paul McGovern (born 3 October 1980) is a Scottish former football player and coach. Career Born in Glasgow, McGovern started his football career at Celtic having signed at the age of 16. His time playing in Scotland was sandwiched by a loan spell at Sheffield United. Whilst on loan at Sheffield United he scored three times; the first goals of his professional career. He scored in the league against Walsall, before following that up with strikes against York City in the League Cup and Cheltenham in the FA Cup. After returning to Celtic when his loan spell ended with Sheffield United and Celtic refusing to extend his stay at Sheffield United, he finished out his season in the reserves with Celtic. Desmond Sinclair Walker (born 26 November 1965) is an English football coach and former player, who played as a defender. At club level he played in seven cup finals for Nottingham Forest at Wembley, winning five of them. He was Forest's player of the year three times. On four straight occasions at Forest he was selected for the PFA Team of the Year. At Sheffield Wednesday he picked up another club player of the year accolade. He played in twenty seasons of senior football. All but the last three of those were in the top flight in either England or Italy. Paolo Pasquale Peschisolido (born 25 May 1971), commonly known as Paul Peschisolido, is a Canadian soccer manager and former player. Peschisolido was manager of English League Two club Burton Albion from May 2009 until March 2012. A forward, Peschisolido began his career in the Canadian Soccer League with the Toronto Blizzard and played in the Major Indoor Soccer League with the Kansas City Comets before moving to England.
