The 2002–03 Powergen Cup was the 32nd edition of England's rugby union club competition. Gloucester won the competition defeating Northampton Saints in the final. Anglo-Welsh Cup
The Anglo-Welsh Cup (), was a cross-border rugby union knock-out cup competition that featured the 12 Premiership Rugby clubs and the four Welsh regions. It was a created as a replacement for the RFU Knockout Cup, which featured only English clubs. The competition was replaced by the Premiership Rugby Cup, involving only the 12 English Premiership clubs, beginning with the 2018–19 season. History Background RFU Knockout Cup From 1971 to 2005, English clubs played in the RFU Knockout Cup. At its formation, it was the highest honour that a club could win, as there were no nationally organised leagues until merit leagues were introduced in 1984, followed by the full national league pyramid in 1987. Andy Gomarsall
Andrew Charles Thomas Gomarsall MBE (born 24 July 1974, in Durham) is a former rugby union player who played at scrum-half for Leeds Carnegie and England. He previously played for Gloucester Rugby, Bedford and Wasps. Until May 2006 he was contracted to Worcester Warriors for three seasons from 2005, but was released after one year of a three-year contract – an action which is still subject to potential legal action by Gomarsall. He was released by Harlequins F.C in 2009 and joined Leeds Carnegie for the 2009–2010 season to continue Guinness Premiership rugby. Bruce Reihana
Bruce Trevor Reihana (born 6 April 1976) is a former rugby union rugby player. He was a utility back, most notably for the majority of his career as captain of Northampton Saints in the English Premership. Biography Born in Thames, New Zealand, Reihana started playing in the National Provincial Championship level with Waikato in 1996 and led them to two Ranfurly Shield victories out of three. He played for the Chiefs in the former Super 12 from 1997 to 2002 with 58 games and 123 points to his name. Internationally, Reihana represented the New Zealand Sevens in the rugby sevens. Nigel Melville
Nigel David Melville (born 6 January 1961) is a former England national rugby union team scrum half and captain and currently serves as Director of Professional Rugby for Rugby Football Union. Melville became the youngest player to captain England on his début when he led them against Australia in November 1984. He went on to make another twelve appearances over the next four years. Playing career Melville attended Aireborough Grammar School and North East London polytechnic. He played club rugby for Otley R.U.F.C., Wakefield RFC and Wasps FC. Melville was captain of the England Schools 19 age group on their tour to New Zealand and Australia in 1979, England B – the youngest captain at the time, England Under 23 on their tour of Romania in 1983. Junior Paramore
Peter "Junior" Paramore (born 18 November 1968) is a Samoan former professional rugby union international, who also spent time playing professional rugby league. Paramore was born in Samoa, and raised in New Zealand, playing his rugby in that country until 1995. In 1996, he left for the UK to take up a professional rugby league contract with Castleford Tigers ( Heritage № 733). However, after one season, he moved to Bedford Blues professional rugby union side, helping them achieve promotion to the premiership in 1998. In 1999 he moved to Gloucester Rugby, joining his cousin Terry Fanolua. Rodrigo Roncero
Rodrigo Roncero, also known as "RoRo", uncle of Mateo Morrone, alias Morronzero, Morroculo o Duketto, (born 16 February 1977, in Buenos Aires), is a retired Argentine former rugby union player. The last team in which he played was Stade Français in the Top 14. He has also played for Gloucester Rugby in the Guinness Premiership from 2002 to 2004. Roncero also played for Argentina, usually as a prop. Whilst at Gloucester he was a replacement in the 2003 Powergen Cup Final in which Gloucester defeated Northampton Saints. Chris Fortey (born 25 August 1975 in Gloucester) is a retired English rugby union player for Worcester Warriors in the Aviva Premiership. He previously played for Gloucester. Whilst at Gloucester he was a replacement in both the 2002 Zurich Championship Final (the year before winning the play-offs constituted winning the English title) in which Gloucester defeated Bristol Shoguns, and the 2003 Powergen Cup Final in which Gloucester defeated Northampton Saints. Simon Amor
Simon Daniel Edward Amor (born 25 April 1979) is an English rugby union coach and former player. Amor played in the scrum-half and fly-half positions for London Scottish and captained the England national rugby sevens team. He has been the head coach of London Scottish, England sevens, Hong Kong, and, as recently as 2020, was appointed defence-coach for the England rugby union team. Early life Amor was educated at Denmead Preparatory School, Hampton School, St. Mary's University College (Twickenham) and Cambridge University. Clive James Stuart-Smith (born 17 May 1983) is an English rugby union player who plays at scrum-half. Stuart-Smith played club rugby for Gloucester RFC, Leeds Tykes, Worcester Warriors, Exeter Chiefs and Esher RFC in the English leagues as well as representing Welsh region Llanelli Scarlets. Trevor James Woodman MBE (born 4 August 1976) is a former English rugby union footballer. He was born in Plymouth, but went to Liskeard School in Cornwall and won representative honours with Cornwall Under 16s. Woodman moved from Cornwall and played first for Plymouth Albion and Bath before joining Gloucester Rugby in 1996. Olivier Azam
Olivier Azam (born 21 October 1974 in Tarbes) is a retired French rugby union footballer. A hooker who could also cover prop, Azam spent most of his professional playing career in the English Premiership at Gloucester Rugby. Azam also had 10 caps for France.
