Hong Kong First Division League
The Hong Kong First Division League () is the second-highest division in the Hong Kong football league system. Established in 1908, it is the third oldest in Asia. The league was formerly the highest division in Hong Kong until the formation of the Hong Kong Premier League in 2014. Since 1908, a total of 29 clubs have been crowned champions of the Hong Kong football system. South China are the most successful club, having won 41 times since their first participation in 1941. Competition format Each team plays the other teams in the division twice, one home and one away game. The ticket profits go to the home team. If there are two matches in the same stadium on the day, the profits are shared between the two home teams. The top two teams in the league are offered promotion to the Premier League while the bottom two are relegated to the Hong Kong Second Division. Happy Valley Athletic Association (), known simply as Happy Valley or HVAA, is a Hong Kong football club which currently competes in the Hong Kong First Division. They are historically one of the most successful football clubs in Hong Kong, having won the First Division six times and had consistently been in the top division, until they were relegated to the Second Division after the 2009–10 season. Double Flower Football Association () is a Hong Kong football club which plays in the Hong Kong Second Division. The club was very successful in 1990s in the then top-tier First Division under the name Instant-Dict (). Major events * 1981–82 season: The club finished second in the Third Division and were promoted to Second Division. * 1984–85 season: The club finished third in the Second Division and were promoted to First Division, then the top league in Hong Kong football. * 1985–86 season: The club faced Seiko in their First Division debut, in which they led 3-2 at the beginning of the second half but then conceded 5 goals and lost the match 3-7. The football section of Hong Kong Football Club (Abbreviation: HKFC; ) fields a range of teams at various age divisions in the Hong Kong leagues. The first team currently competes in the Hong Kong Premier League. History While the football team has won many titles in the second-tier competition in recent years, they have rarely enjoyed success when playing against the professional sides in the First Division. In 1980 however, "CLUB" as they were commonly known, did manage to avoid relegation from the professional First Division for the first time in their history. Keith Gumbs
Keith "Kayamba" Gumbs (born 11 September 1972 in St. Kitts, Saint Kitts and Nevis) is a retired St. Kitts and Nevis international football player. Playing career Gumbs began playing football while he was attending the Newtown Primary School (now the Tucker/Clarke Primary School), continued at Basseterre Junior High (now the Washington Archilbald High School) and then Basseterre Senior High where he finished his schooling. Gumbs played various other sports as well, including cricket and basketball. In his debut first division season in 1989, he helped Newtown to win the double (league and cup) earning him a called up to the National Senior team by the then head coach Alphonso Bridgewater. Gumbs now plays amateur football for Southern & Ettalong United in Australia, where he now lives. South China Athletic Association (known simply as South China, SCAA, ) is a Hong Kong professional football club that competes in the Hong Kong First Division, the second-tier league in Hong Kong football league system. Sun Hei Sports Club () is a Hong Kong football club which currently competes in the Hong Kong Third Division. The club has a long history in playing in the top flight, but decided to self-relegate in the 2013–14 season after declining to participate in the newly established Hong Kong Premier League. Xiangxue Pharmaceutical was the name of several teams from mainland China that played in Hong Kong First Division League; they were all sponsored by Xiangxue Pharmaceutical. History In 2001–02 season, , a youth football club from Zhaoqing, entered the Hong Kong First Division League. It was replaced by the reserve team of Guangzhou F.C. in 2002–03 season, which was also sponsored by Xiangxue Pharmaceutical since January 2002, as Guangzhou Xiangxue. It became the name for the reserve team of another Chinese football club Hunan Shoking that was intended to play in 2004–05 Hong Kong First Division League. Fukien Athletic Club () are a Hong Kong professional multi-sports club, best known for its football team. Its football club currently plays in the Hong Kong Third Division. History Fukien Athletic Club was founded in 1925. At the early period, the club was funded by Chinese businessman and philanthropist Tan Kah Kee, who heralded from Fujian, as well as by group of Fujian immigrants. The club entered the Hong Kong football league system in 1930. In 1990, Fukien won their first trophy, capturing the Junior Shield.
