2002–03 FC Basel Season
The 2002–03 season was FC Basel's 110th season of competition, and the club's 9th consecutive season in the Nationalliga A, the top flight of Swiss football. Basel played their home games in the newly constructed St. Jakob-Park complex. René C. Jäggi had been the club chairman for the previous six seasons, but stood down at the AGM in October, and businessman Werner Edelmann was elected as the new chairman. The club sought to retain the Swiss Nationalliga A and Swiss Cup titles after winning the double the previous season. They also sought to compete in the Champions League for as long as possible, as well as reach its group stage. Basel ended the domestic league season as runners-up in the league and winners of the Swiss Cup. They also reached the second group stage of the Champions League. Fussball Club Basel 1893, widely known as FC Basel, FCB, or just Basel, is a Swiss football club based in Basel, in the Canton of Basel-Stadt. Formed in 1893, the club has been Swiss national champions 20 times, Swiss Cup winners 13 times, and Swiss League Cup winners once. Julio Hernan Rossi (born 22 February 1977) is an Argentinian former football striker. Football career Early years Julio Hernán Rossi began his professional career at Argentinian club Club Atlético River Plate in July 1995, as he advanced from their youth team to their first team. During his time with River Plate he had a six month unsuccessful loan spell at J1 League side Avispa Fukuoka. Lugano At the end of his contract Rossi moved to the Swiss Super League with FC Lugano in 1998 on a free contract. Bernt Haas
Bernt Haas (born 8 April 1978) is a former Swiss football defender. Career Haas was born in Vienna, Austria. He began his career at Grasshoppers Zurich, where he played for several seasons before moving to England to join Premier League club Sunderland in August 2001. Despite making 27 appearances for the club in 2001–02, he did not play for Sunderland during the following season and was loaned out to FC Basel. Haas joined West Bromwich Albion in 2003, and was a regular at right-back as Albion were promoted back to the Premier League. Alessandro Iandoli (born 29 April 1984) is a Swiss former footballer who played as a left back. He also holds Italian nationality. Career Born in Basel, Iandoli first played his youth football with Nordstern Basel, but after a few years he moved on to FC Basel. He advanced to Basel's first team during their 2002–03 season. Iandoli played in a four of the teams test matches that season and travelled with the team to the summer training camp in USA. Philippe Cravero
Philippe Cravero (born 2 September 1970) is a Swiss former professional footballer who played as a left-back. Football career Cravero began his career at Neuchâtel Xamax in 1990 where he played for four years, during which time he had a loan spell at SR Delémont, before joining Étoile Carouge FC in 1994. Cravero joined Basel's first team for their 1998–99 season under head coach Guy Mathez. After playing in three test games he played his domestic league debut for his new club in the home game in the St. Jakob Stadium on 25 July 1998 as Basel won 2–1 against Zürich. Miroslav König
Miroslav König (born 1 June 1972) is a retired Slovak football goalkeeper of German descent, who played during the 1990s and 2000s. He played for a number of clubs in Slovakia, Switzerland, Turkey, the Czech Republic and Greece. Career König began his career with FC Nitra in 1991 but never played any games at the club and moved to FC Spartak Trnava in 1993. Romain Crevoisier
Romain Crevoisier (born 5 August 1965) is a retired Swiss football goalkeeper who played in the late 1980s, 1990s and early 2000s. He is now a goalkeeping coach at FC Basel. Crevoisier began playing professionally in 1987 with FC La Chaux-de-Fonds. He left for SR Delémont in 1992, and played there for four years before he signed for SC Kriens in 1996. Oliver Kreuzer (born 13 November 1965) is a German former professional footballer who played as a centre-back for Karlsruher SC, Bayern Munich and FC Basel.
