2002 World Short Track Speed Skating Championships
The 2002 World Short Track Speed Skating Championships took place between April 5 and 7, 2002 in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. The World Championships are organised by the ISU which also run world cups and championships in speed skating and figure skating. Results Men * First place is awarded 34 points, second is awarded 21 points, third is awarded 13 points, fourth is awarded 8 points, fifth is awarded 5 points, sixth is awarded 3 points, seventh is awarded 2 points, and eighth is awarded 1 point in the finals of each individual race to determine the overall world champion. The relays do not count for the overall classification. Yang Yang (; born 24 August 1976 in Jiamusi, Heilongjiang, China) is a retired Chinese short track speed skater. She is a two-time Olympic Champion from 2002 Winter Olympics and a six-time Overall World Champion for 1997–2002. Known as Yang Yang (A), she was formerly a member of the Chinese national short track team. Yang is one of the most accomplished short track speed skaters of all time having won 34 world titles, including six Overall World Championships. She is the first person to have won six Overall World Titles and won six consecutively. Her victory in the women's 500 m short track at the 2002 Winter Olympics made her China's first-ever Winter Olympics gold medalist. World Short Track Speed Skating Championships
The World Short Track Speed Skating Championships are a senior international short track speed skating competition held once a year to determine the World Champion in individual distances, relays and Overall Classification. It is sanctioned by the International Skating Union and is usually held in March or April. In 1967, the International Skating Union adopted short track speed skating, although it did not organise international competitions until 1976. World Championships have been held since 1981, though earlier events later received that status. Skaters perform individual races in the 500 meters, 1000 meters, 1500 meters, 3000 meters (super-final involving eight competitors with highest points after completion of other distances) and a four-person race, in the 3000 meters relay for women, and the 5000 meters relay for men. Choi Eun-kyung (Hangul: 최은경, Hanja: 崔恩景, born December 26, 1984) is a South Korean short track speed skater. She is a double Olympic Champion in relays and a two-time Overall World Champion for 2003 and 2004. Biography At the 2002 Winter Olympics, Choi won a silver medal in the 1500 m and was a member of gold medal-winning relay team in 3000 m relay. She was the World record holder for 1500 m at the time. Choi's career heights came between 2002 and 2006 Winter Olympics. She was the Overall World Champion in 2003 and in 2004. She also won the Overall World Cup title for 2003–2004 season. Amélie Goulet-Nadon
Amélie Goulet-Nadon (born January 24, 1983, in Laval, Quebec) is a Canadian short track speed skater who competed in the 2002 Winter Olympics. In 2002, she was a member of the Canadian relay team which won the bronze medal in the 3000 metre relay competition. Goulet-Nadon was considered one of Canada's rising superstars in short track until a problem arose with her motor problem, forcing her to abandon the 2006 Turin Olympics and eventually retire early at the age of 23. Her accomplishments include winning the overall 500m, 1000, and 1500m world cups in 2002-03 and finishing second overall in the season. As of 2009, Goulet-Nadon is a graduate in naturopathy who would like to help people incorporate sports and healthy living into their lifestyles. Evgenia Radanova ( bg, Евгения Раданова; born 4 November 1977) is a Bulgarian female short track speed skater and racing cyclist who has participated in both the Summer and Winter Olympics. She was the world record holder in the 500 m short track distance with 43.671s, which she set in Calgary, Canada on 19 October 2001.
