2002 Winnipeg Blue Bombers Season
The 2002 CFL season, 2002 Winnipeg Blue Bombers finished in second place in the West Division with a 12–6 record. Due to the Ottawa Renegades entering the league, the Blue Bombers moved back to the Canadian Football League West Division, West Division. They appeared in the West Final, but lost to the Edmonton Eskimos. Canadian Football League West Division
The West Division is one of the two regional divisions of the Canadian Football League (CFL), its counterpart being the East Division (CFL), East Division. Although the CFL was not founded until 1958, the West Division and its clubs are descended from earlier leagues. The five teams in the West Division are the BC Lions, Calgary Stampeders, Edmonton Elks, Saskatchewan Roughriders, and Winnipeg Blue Bombers. There were also two now-defunct teams from the Canadian Football League in the United States, mid 1990s United States expansion of the CFL who played in the West Division. Calgary Stampeders
The Calgary Stampeders are a professional Canadian football team based in Calgary, Alberta. The Stampeders compete in the West Division of the Canadian Football League (CFL). The club plays its home games at McMahon Stadium and are the third-oldest active franchise in the CFL. The Stampeders were officially founded in 1945, although there were clubs operating in Calgary since the 1890s. The Calgary Stampeders have won eight Grey Cups, most recently in 2018, from their appearances in 17 Grey Cup Championship games. Harold Nash
Harold Nash, Jr. (born May 5, 1970 in New Orleans, Louisiana) is a current American football strength and conditioning coach of the National Football League (NFL). He is also a former defensive back in the Canadian Football League. Playing career Nash attended St. Augustine High School in New Orleans, Louisiana where he played defensive back. He then attended the University of Southwestern Louisiana, where he went from a walk-on defensive back in 1988 to being voted a permanent team captain by 1992. After spending training camp with the NFL's New York Giants in 1993, Nash moved to the CFL. He first joined the expansion Shreveport Pirates (1994–1995) who folded at the conclusion of the 1995 season. Nash later joined the Montreal Alouettes (1996–1999), but midway through the 1999 season, joined the Winnipeg Blue Bombers (1999–2003) with whom he set a team record for all-time pass knockdowns. Khari Jones
Khari Okang Jones ( ; born May 16, 1971) is a former professional Canadian football player and the offensive coordinator and assistant head coach for the Ottawa Redblacks of the Canadian Football League (CFL). He was formerly the head coach for the Montreal Alouettes. He is also a former television sports reporter for the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC). Jones played quarterback in the CFL, where he enjoyed his most success with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. Jones also played briefly for the Arena Football League's Albany Firebirds and the World League of American Football's Scottish Claymores. Doug Brown (Canadian Football)
Douglas Gordon Brown (born September 29, 1974) is a retired National Football League (NFL) and Canadian Football League (CFL) defensive tackle. He played college football at Simon Fraser University. Brown won the CFL's Most Outstanding Canadian Award in 2001. He played for the Winnipeg Blue Bombers from 2001 until his retirement in 2011, competing in three Grey Cups: 2001, 2007, and 2011. He was a CFL All-Star eight times. Career Brown was drafted by the Calgary Stampeders 5th overall in the 1997 CFL draft. However, he did not play a game with them and signed with the Buffalo Bills of the NFL, spending his entire time there on the practice squad. Dave Mudge
David Mudge (born October 22, 1974) is a former professional Canadian football offensive lineman who played in the Canadian Football League from 1997 to 1999 for the Toronto Argonauts, from 2000 to 2005 with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers and from 2005 to 2008 with the Montreal Alouettes. He won the CFL's Most Outstanding Offensive Lineman Award in 2001 while playing for the Blue Bombers. On February 16, 2009, he became a free agent. Since retiring from football, Mudge has worked Alouettes games for CJAD radio broadcasts of Montreal games. He joined the Alouettes Alumni Committee in late 2012. Charles Roberts (born April 3, 1979) is a former Canadian football running back who played for the Winnipeg Blue Bombers and BC Lions of the Canadian Football League. College Roberts attended Sacramento State, where he set numerous DI-AA rushing records for the Sac State Hornets football team, including total rushing yards and most yards in a game (409 yards vs Idaho State in 1999). His nickname while with the Hornets was "Choo-Choo Charlie", in reference to the train that would often come by behind the stadium during games and practices. Milt Stegall
Milton Eugene Stegall (born January 25, 1970) is a former professional gridiron football player who played 17 years of professional football, three years in the National Football League with the Cincinnati Bengals and 14 years in the Canadian Football League with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. He is currently an analyst on the CFL on TSN studio panel. Stegall was an All-Star receiver for the Winnipeg Blue Bombers of the CFL. Spanning an illustrious 14-year career from 1995–2008, he held several major CFL records upon his retirement including most career receiving yards, and currently holds the record for career receiving touchdowns and most touchdowns scored. CFL's Most Outstanding Player Award
The Most Outstanding Player Award is annually awarded to the best player in the Canadian Football League. The two nominees for the award are the Terry Evanshen Trophy winner from the East Division, and the Jeff Nicklin Memorial Trophy winner from the West Division. The winner of the award is chosen by the Football Reporters of Canada. The award was created in 1953 as the Schenley Award, named after Schenley Distillers Corporation, to honour the most outstanding player in Canadian Rugby Union, one of the forerunner leagues of the CFL; Schenley ended its sponsorship of the awards in 1988, and the awards have been unsponsored since. 2002 Montreal Alouettes Season
The 2002 Montreal Alouettes finished in first place in the East Division with a 13–5–0–1 record. The Alouettes hired coach Don Matthews, after a terrible ending to the 2001 season. They defeated the Toronto Argonauts 35–18 in the East Final to advance to the Grey Cup. The 2002 Ottawa Renegades season was the first in franchise history. It was the first time since the 1996 CFL season that the city of Ottawa had a team in the CFL.
