2002 Wandsworth London Borough Council Election
The 2002 Wandsworth London Borough Council election took place on 2 May 2002 to elect members of Wandsworth London Borough Council in London, England. The whole council was up for election with boundary changes since the last election in 1998 reducing the number of seats by 1. The Conservative party stayed in overall control of the council. The election saw an experiment in leaving polling stations open for a longer period. Along with neighbouring Westminster City Council polling stations were open from 7am to 10pm instead of the standard 8am to 9pm. Wandsworth London UK Local Election 2002 Map
Wandsworth Town () is a district of south London, within the London Borough of Wandsworth southwest of Charing Cross. The area is identified in the London Plan as one of 35 major centres in Greater London. Toponymy Wandsworth takes its name from the River Wandle, which enters the Thames at Wandsworth. Wandsworth appears in Domesday Book of 1086 as ''Wandesorde'' and ''Wendelesorde''. This means 'enclosure of (a man named) Waendel', whose name is also lent to the River Wandle. To distinguish it from the London Borough of Wandsworth, and historically from the Wandsworth District of the Metropolis and the Metropolitan Borough of Wandsworth, which all covered larger areas, it is also known as Wandsworth Town. The ''Evening Standard'', formerly ''The Standard'' (1827–1904), also known as the ''London Evening Standard'', is a local free daily newspaper in London, England, published Monday to Friday in tabloid format. 2006 Wandsworth Council Election
The 2006 Wandsworth Council election took place on 4 May 2006 to elect members of Wandsworth London Borough Council in London, England. The whole council was up for election and the Conservative party stayed in overall control of the council. The Conservatives were always expected to hold control and the low rates of council tax in Wandsworth were used as an example by the Conservatives in neighbouring councils such as Hammersmith and Fulham. During the campaign one Labour candidate, Nick Bowes, had said that the party was being well beaten and described the campaign as being "miserable, exhausting and lonely". Wandsworth Local Elections
Wandsworth London Borough Council, England, is elected every four years. From 2002 to 2018, 60 councillors were elected from 20 Wards of the United Kingdom, wards. Following ward boundary changes, in 2022 58 councillors were elected in 22 wards returning either 2 or 3 councillors each.
