2002 Tour De Pologne
The 2002 Tour de Pologne was the 59th edition of the Tour de Pologne cycle race and was held from 9 September to 15 September 2002. The race started in Gdańsk and finished in Karpacz on a route identical to that of the previous edition. The race was won by former world champion Laurent Brochard. Laurent Brochard
Laurent Brochard (born 26 March 1968 in Le Mans, France) is a retired professional road racing cyclist from France. In 1997 he won a stage of the Tour de France and became world road champion in San Sebastián, Spain. Brochard was a runner and started cycling competitively at 19. He started with Castorama and became part of Festina cycling team. His role in Festina was ''super-domestique'', supporting stars such as Richard Virenque but able to ride competitively when given the chance. He was implicated in the Festina scandal in the 1998 Tour de France. After serving his suspension, Brochard joined Ag2r Prévoyance as leader and had successes in races such as Critérium International and Etoile de Béssèges. He then moved to Bouygues Télécom. He is a fan of Belgian comic character Marsupilami, often wearing Marsupilami logo and clothing at races. Tomasz Brożyna
Tomasz Brożyna (born 19 September 1970 in Bieliny) is a Polish former professional road racing cyclist, who currently works as a directeur sportif for UCI Continental team . He entered professional cycling in 1996 and retired in 2006 at the age of 36. He is the first Polish cyclist to complete all three of the Grand Tours. Brożyna was a member of the Korona Kielce (1986–1995), Rotan Spiessens–Hot Dog Louis(1995), (1996–1997), (1998–1999, 2004, and 2006), (2000–2002), (2003), and Knauf teams (2005). His son Piotr Brożyna is also a professional cyclist. Marek Rutkiewicz
Marek Rutkiewicz (born 8 May 1981 in Olsztyn) is a Polish former road racing cyclist, who rode professionally between 2001 and 2020 for seven different teams. Rutkiewicz's strength was in climbing and his victories came in hilly races, including the mountains classification at the 2009 Tour de Pologne. Tour De Pologne
The Tour de Pologne (Polish: ''Wyścig Dookoła Polski'', English: ''Tour of Poland'', official abbreviation TdP,) is an annual, professional men's multiple-stage bicycle race primarily held in Poland. It consists of seven or eight stages and is usually around 1,200 km in length. The race was first held in 1928 and is considered the oldest and most important bicycle race in Poland. Until 1952 the race was held sporadically, but since then it has been an annual race. Until early 1993 the race was open to amateur cyclists only and most of its winners came from Poland. Since 2009, the race has been taking place between July and August. The international cycling association, the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI), made TdP part of the UCI ProTour in 2005, and part of the UCI World Tour, cycling's highest level of professional men's races, in 2009. Karpacz
Karpacz (German: ''Krummhübel'') is a spa town and ski resort in Jelenia Góra County, Lower Silesian Voivodeship, south-western Poland, and one of the most important centres for mountain hiking and skiing, including ski jumping. Its population is about 4,500. Karpacz is situated in the Karkonosze Mountains – a resort with increasing importance for tourism as an alternative to the Alps. Karpacz is located at above sea level. Frank Vandenbroucke (cyclist)
Frank Vandenbroucke (6 November 1974 – 12 October 2009) was a Belgium, Belgian professional road racing cyclist. After showing promise in track and field in his adolescence, Vandenbroucke took to cycle racing in the late 1980s and developed into one of the great hopes for Belgian cycling in the 1990s, with a string of victories that included Liege-Baston-Liege, Grand Tour stages and Omloop Het Nieuwsblad, Omloop Het Volk. This early success dissipated however in a series of drug abuse, drug problems, rows with teams and suicide attempts. Despite repeated attempts to continue his career with a string of different teams from 2000 to 2008, Vandenbroucke's drug use and unpredictability eventually led to his estrangement from the cycling world. Although Vandenbroucke claimed in an interview in 2009 to have recovered his mental health, he died of a pulmonary embolism in October 2009 at the age of 34. Ondřej Sosenka (born 9 December 1975 in Prague) is a Czech professional cyclist who last rode for the UCI Professional Continental team PSK Whirlpool-Author. He won the Peace Race in 2002. He broke the five-year-old UCI hour record on 19 July 2005 in Moscow, Russia, riding in one hour. Biography Sosenka was known as one of the largest professional cyclists competing in Europe. Standing tall, he weighs and rides a track bicycle with cranks. For his 2005-hour record attempt, he used a custom carbon fiber bicycle manufactured by Francesco Moser cycles. In 2006, he won the Czech Republic national time trial championships and following this the two-man time trial Duo Normand with Radek Blahut.
