Mahesh Bhupathi and Leander Paes were the defending champions, but did not participate together. Paes played with Tomáš Cibulec but they lost in the semifinals to Mark Knowles and Daniel Nestor. Bhupathi partnered with Max Mirnyi but they lost in semifinals to Paul Haarhuis and Yevgeny Kafelnikov. Haarhuis and Kafelnikov went on to win the title, defeating Knowles and Nestor 7–5, 6–4 in the final. Paul Haarhuis
Paul Vincent Nicholas Haarhuis (born 19 February 1966) is a Dutch former professional tennis player. He is a former world No. 1 doubles player, having reached a career-high singles ranking of world No. 18 in November 1995. Rick Leach
Rick Leach (born December 28, 1964) is a former professional tennis player and a coach from the United States. A doubles specialist, he won five Grand Slam doubles titles (three at the Australian Open, one at Wimbledon, and one at the US Open), and four mixed doubles titles (two at the Australian Open, one at Wimbledon, and one at the US Open). He reached the world No. 1 doubles ranking in 1990. Leach was a member of the US team which won the Davis Cup in 1990. Partnering Jim Pugh, he won the doubles rubbers in all four of the rounds which the US played in that year, and clinched the team's victory in the final with a win over Pat Cash and John Fitzgerald of Australia. Petr Pála (born 2 October 1975) is a tennis coach and former professional tennis player from the Czech Republic. Together with Pavel Vízner he reached the men's doubles final of the 2001 French Open but lost to Indians Mahesh Bhupathi and Leander Paes (6–7, 3–6). Pála was coached by his father František, who was a professional tennis player on the ATP tour. Pála never had the opportunity to do his singles ability justice on the ATP Tour due to injury. David Rikl (born 27 February 1971) is a former professional tennis player from the Czech Republic.
