The 2002 Detroit Tigers season was the team's 102nd season and its 3rd at Comerica Park. It involved the Detroit Tigers making a valiant attempt to win the AL Central. American League Central
The American League Central is one of Major League Baseball's six divisions. This division was formed in the realignment of 1994 by moving three teams from the American League West and two teams from the American League East. Its teams are all located in the Midwestern United States. Along with the National League East, the AL Central is one of two divisions in the Major Leagues in which all of its members have won a World Series title. Jimmie William Price (born October 13, 1941) is a former professional baseball catcher, who played in Major League Baseball (MLB) for the Detroit Tigers from to . He is also the current color commentator for the Detroit Tigers Radio Network. Baseball career Price was originally signed by the Pittsburgh Pirates in , and was listed as a top prospect in the Pirates’ early-1960s yearbooks. His best minor league season was , slugging 19 home runs while batting .311 for the Kinston Eagles of the Single-A Carolina League. For Price’s efforts he was named the Pirates Minor League Player of the Year. His MLB debut came with the 1967 Tigers, after his contract was purchased from the Pirates. 1967 was also Price’s best big league season, when he hit .261 in 44 games. Jason Beverlin
Jason Robert Beverlin (born November 27, 1973) is an American baseball coach and former pitcher, who is the current pitching coach of the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers. He played college baseball at Western Carolina as well as in Major League Baseball (MLB) and Nippon Professional Baseball (NPB). He played one season in the United States and three seasons in Japan. He also served as the head coach of Bethune-Cookman Wildcats (2012–2017). Jeremy Allen Bonderman (born October 28, 1982) is an American former professional baseball pitcher. Bonderman batted and threw right-handed. High school Bonderman attended Pasco High School in Pasco, Washington. In his last year of high school baseball, he went 5–2 and recorded a 3.60 earned run average (ERA). He is the only high school junior ever to be drafted with a first round pick in baseball history. John-Ford David Griffin (born November 19, 1979) is an American former professional baseball outfielder. He played in Major League Baseball (MLB) for the Toronto Blue Jays. Early life An All-State athlete at Sarasota High School, was part of a state championship team in 1996 for the Sailors. Theodore Roosevelt Lilly III (born January 4, 1976) is an American former professional baseball pitcher. Lilly attended Yosemite High School in Oakhurst, California, and Fresno City College. He played in Major League Baseball (MLB) for the Montreal Expos, New York Yankees, Oakland Athletics, Toronto Blue Jays, Chicago Cubs and Los Angeles Dodgers. Franklyn Miguel Germán Madé (born January 20, 1980) is a Dominican former professional baseball relief pitcher. He played in Major League Baseball (MLB) for the Detroit Tigers, Florida Marlins, and Texas Rangers over parts of six seasons. Career Germán joined the Oakland Athletics organization on July 2, 1996.
