The 2002 Copa dos Campeões was the third (and last) edition of the football competition held in Brazil. As in previous editions, it was carried out in a neutral field in three states in the Northeast Region (Piauí, Rio Grande do Norte and Ceará - place of the decision) and in Pará (North Region). Paysandu Sport Club, commonly referred to as Paysandu, is a Brazilian professional club based in Belém, Pará founded on 2 February 1914. It competes in the Campeonato Brasileiro Série C, the third tier of Brazilian football, as well as in the Campeonato Paraense, the top flight of the Pará state football league. Paysandu is the top ranked team from Pará in CBF's national club ranking, at 40th overall. History On February 2, 1914, members of Norte Club protested against a decision of the football federation of Pará benefiting Remo by terminating the team and refounding other team. Copa Centro-Oeste ( en, Center-West Cup) was a Brazilian football competition contested between Center-West region teams and teams from the Southeastern State Espírito Santo. For one edition, it was also contested by teams from Minas Gerais. Minas Gerais state clubs only competed in the first Copa Centro-Oeste edition, in 1999, joining the new Copa Sul-Minas in 2000. Cruzeiro, from Minas Gerais, won the Cup and was the only non-Central Western team to reach the finals in the four editions of the tourney.
