2001–02 Japan Figure Skating Championships
The 2001–02 Japan Figure Skating Championships were the 70th edition of the event. They were held on December 21–23, 2001 at the Namihaya Dome arena in Kadoma, Osaka. National Champions were crowned in the disciplines of men's singles, ladies' singles, pair skating, and ice dancing. As well as crowning the national champions of Japan for the 2001–02 season, the results of this competition were used to help pick the teams for the 2002 Winter Olympics, 2002 World Championships, and the 2002 Four Continents Championships. Competition notes * Takeshi Honda and Yoshie Onda withdrew before the competition, but had already been chosen before the event to compete at the 2002 Winter Olympics. * The following skaters placed high enough at Junior Nationals and so were invited to compete at Nationals: Daisuke Takahashi, Ryosuke Sasaki. Japan Figure Skating Championships
The Japan or All-Japan Figure Skating Championships ( ja, 全日本フィギュアスケート選手権) are a figure skating national championship held annually to determine the national champions of Japan. Skaters compete in the disciplines of men's singles, ladies' singles, pair skating, and ice dancing Ice dance (sometimes referred to as ice dancing) is a discipline of figure skating that historically draws from ballroom dancing. Yukari Nakano
is a Japanese former competitive figure skater. She is the 2006 Four Continents silver medalist, the 2003 Four Continents bronze medalist, the 2005–06 Grand Prix Final bronze medalist, the 2007 Asian Winter Games champion, and a three-time (2006, 2007, 2009) Japanese national bronze medalist. Nakano is one of twelve female skaters to perform a triple Axel in international competition. Personal life Yukari Nakano was born on August 25, 1985 in Kōnan, Aichi Prefecture. She has two elder siblings, a brother and sister. In 2004, Nakano enrolled at Waseda University in Tokyo. She earned her master's degree from Waseda, having studied at the Graduate School of Human Sciences. In 2010, she began working for Fuji Television's Sports Division, becoming a director and journalist. In April 2015, Nakano married her longtime boyfriend. Soshi Tanaka
is a Japanese former competitive figure skater. He won two 1999–2000 ISU Junior Grand Prix (JGP) events and the 2001 Japanese junior national title. He qualified for the 1999–2000 JGP Final, where he finished fourth, and reached the top ten at two ISU Championships, placing 6th at 1999 Junior Worlds in Zagreb and 8th at 2000 Junior Worlds in Oberstdorf. is a Japanese former competitive figure skater. He is a two-time Ondrej Nepela Memorial champion, the 2003 Winter Universiade bronze medalist, and a three-time Japan national medalist. He finished in the top ten at three Four Continents Championships. Personal life Kensuke Nakaniwa was born on October 15, 1981 in Fukuoka, Japan. Career In the 1999–2000 season, Nakaniwa won a bronze medal on the ISU Junior Grand Prix series and placed 13th at the 2000 World Junior Championships. is a Japanese figure skating coach and former competitor. As a single skater, he is a two-time Japanese national champion and represented Japan at the 1998 Winter Olympics, placing 17th. Career As a competitor Competing in single skating, Tamura won two Japanese national titles. He was selected to represent Japan at the 1998 Winter Olympics and placed 17th. Minoru Sano coached him during his career. Tamura landed a quadruple toe loop in competition in 1999 and a quadruple toe-triple toe combination in 2000.
