2001 Women's NORCECA Volleyball Championship
The 2001 Women's NORCECA Volleyball Championship was the 17th edition of the volleyball, Women's Continental Volleyball Tournament, played by six countries from October 10 to October 14, 2001 in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. The United States won the gold medal over Cuba and qualified for the 2001 FIVB Volleyball Women's World Grand Champions Cup, 2001 FIVB World Grand Champions Cup; the Dominican Republic was third after winning over the Mexican team. Puerto Rico withdrawed and was replaced by Costa Rica; Canada and Jamaica cancelled their participation because of the recent flying problems derived by the September 11 attacks. Women's NORCECA Volleyball Championship
The NORCECA Women's Volleyball Championship is the official competition for senior women's national volleyball teams of North America, Central America and the Caribbean, organized by the North, Central America and Caribbean Volleyball Confederation (NORCECA). Since its introduction in 1969 the tournaments have been awarded every two years. Volleyball
Volleyball is a team sport in which two teams of six players are separated by a net. Each team tries to score points by grounding a ball on the other team's court under organized rules. It has been a part of the official program of the Summer Olympic Games since Tokyo 1964. Beach volleyball was introduced to the programme at the Atlanta 1996. The adapted version of volleyball at the Summer Paralympic Games is sitting volleyball. The complete set of rules is extensive, but play essentially proceeds as follows: a player on one of the teams begins a 'rally' by serving the ball (tossing or releasing it and then hitting it with a hand or arm), from behind the back boundary line of the court, over the net, and into the receiving team's court. Tara Cross-Battle
Tara Cross-Battle (born September 16, 1968 in Houston, Texas) is a retired volleyball player from the United States, who won the bronze medal with the USA National Women's Team at the 1992 Summer Olympics in Barcelona, Spain. She played NCAA women's volleyball for California State University, Long Beach, where she helped lead her team to the 1989 NCAA Championship title. In 1990, she won the Honda-Broderick Award (now the Honda Sports Award) as the nation's best female collegiate volleyball player. Heather Bown
Heather Erin Bown (born November 29, 1978) is a retired volleyball player from the United States, who played as a middle-blocker. She represented her native country at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens, Greece. There she finished in fifth place with the USA national team. She also competed at the 2000 Summer Olympics. Bown made her third straight Olympic appearance in Beijing, helping Team USA to a silver medal. Early life and education Bown was born in Orange, California, and calls Yorba Linda, California home. Robyn Ah Mow
Robyn Mokihana Ah Mow (born September 15, 1975) is the head coach of the Hawaii Rainbow Wahine volleyball team and a former American indoor volleyball player. She was a setter on the USA national team and played at the 2000 Sydney Olympics, the 2004 Athens Olympics, and at the 2008 Beijing Olympics, helping Team USA to a silver medal. She worked as an assistant coach at the University of Hawaii Rainbow Wahine volleyball team from 2011-2015 and was named Head Coach in 2017 after Dave Shoji's retirement. Stacy Denise Sykora (born June 24, 1977) is a retired American volleyball player. She was a two-time All-American at Texas A&M University and she competed in both the 2000 and the 2004 Olympics as part of the U.S. women's national team.
