2001 UAB Blazers Football Team
The 2001 UAB Blazers football team represented the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) in the college football season of 2001, and was the eleventh team fielded by the school. The Blazers' head coach was Watson Brown, who entered his seventh season as UAB's head coach. They played their home games at Legion Field in Birmingham, Alabama, and competed as a member of Conference USA. The Blazers finished their sixth season at the I-A level, and their third affiliated with a conference with a record of 6–5 (5–2 C-USA). Watson Brown (American Football)
Lester Watson Brown (born April 19, 1950) is a retired American football coach and former player. He was most recently the head football coach at Tennessee Technological University, a position he held from 2007 to 2015. Previously, Brown served as the head coach at Austin Peay State University (1979–1980), the University of Cincinnati (1983), Rice University (1984–1985), Vanderbilt University (1986–1990), and the University of Alabama at Birmingham (1995–2006). He was also the athletic director at Rice from 1984 to 1985 and at UAB from 2002 to 2005. Brown played college football as a quarterback at Vanderbilt. He is the older brother of Mack Brown, the head football coach at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. The 2001 TCU Horned Frogs football team represented Texas Christian University as a member of Conference USA (C-USA) during the 2001 NCAA Division I-A football season. The 2001 UCF Golden Knights football team represented the University of Central Florida in the 2001 NCAA Division I-A football season. Their head coach was Mike Kruczek, who was in his fourth season with the team. The season marked the Golden Knights last season as an independent. In 2002, UCF joined the Mid-American Conference in the East Division, the first conference for the Golden Knights since ascending to the Division I Football Bowl Subdivision in 1996.
