2001 U.S. Women's Open
The 2001 U.S. Women's Open was the 56th U.S. Women's Open, held May 31 to June 3 at Pine Needles Lodge and Golf Club in Southern Pines, North Carolina. This was the second of four major championships on the LPGA Tour in 2001. Defending champion Karrie Webb repeated as champion, eight strokes ahead of runner-up Se Ri Pak, the largest margin in 21 years. Webb became the seventh to win consecutive titles at the U.S. Women's Open, and the win was the fifth of her seven major titles. Pine Needles previously hosted the championship in 1996 and it returned in 2007. 2001 LPGA Tour
The 2001 LPGA Tour was the 52nd season since the LPGA Tour officially began in 1950. The season ran from January 12 to November 18. The season consisted of 38 official money events. Annika Sörenstam won the most tournaments, eight. She also led the money list with earnings of $2,105,868. This was the first season that the Women's British Open was considered an LPGA major. Juli Inkster
Juli Inkster (born Juli Simpson; June 24, 1960) is an American professional golfer who plays on the LPGA Tour. With a professional career spanning 29 years to date, Inkster's 31 wins rank her second in wins among all active players on the LPGA Tour; she has over $14 million in career earnings. She also has more wins in Solheim Cup matches than any other American, and is a member of the World Golf Hall of Fame. Annika Sörenstam
Annika Charlotta Sörenstam (; born 9 October 1970) is a Swedish professional golfer. She is regarded as one of the best female golfers in history. Before stepping away from competitive golf at the end of the 2008 season, she had won 90 international tournaments as a professional, making her the female golfer with the most wins to her name. She has won 72 official LPGA tournaments including ten majors and 24 other tournaments internationally. After turning 50, she came back from her retirement and added a win in the 2021 U.S. Senior Women's Open. Pearl Sinn
Ji Young "Pearl" Sinn-Bonanni (born July 17, 1967) is a Korean-American professional golfer who played on the LPGA, LPGA Tour. She played under her maiden name, Pearl Sinn until her marriage in 2002. Sinn was born in Seoul, South Korea. Her family moved to the United States when she was 9 and she became a U.S. citizen at age 14, renouncing her Korean citizenship. Sinn had a very successful amateur career. She played college golf at Arizona State University where she was a three-time All-American. She won the U.S. Women's Amateur Public Links in 1988 and 1989 (after finishing runner-up in 1987) and the U.S. Women's Amateur in 1988. Michele Redman
Michele Redman (born April 15, 1965) is an American professional golfer who played on the LPGA Tour from 1992 through 2011. She is currently the women's golf coach at the University of Minnesota. Redman was born in Zanesville, Ohio. She attended Zanesville High School, where she played on the varsity boys' golf team. She attended Indiana University, where she won four events, was named All-American twice and All-Big Ten four times. She was the Big Ten Conference champion in 1987. Redman played on the Futures Tour from 1988 to 1991, winning three times in 1991. Catrin Maria Nilsmark (born 30 August 1967) is a Swedish professional golfer who played on both the United States-based LPGA Tour and the Ladies European Tour. Early life Nilsmark was born in Gothenburg, Sweden. She grew up in Lerum east of Gothenburg and began her golf career at Öijared Golf Club, Sweden's first golf club with two 18-hole courses. Liselotte Neumann
Liselotte Maria "Lotta" Neumann (born 20 May 1966) is a Swedish professional golfer. When she recorded her first LPGA Tour win, by claiming the 1988 U.S. Women's Open title, Neumann also became the first Swedish golfer, male or female, to win a major championship. Early years Neumann was born and grew up in Finspång, Sweden. Her father Rune was a former football player and coach of a local girls football team. Kelli Kuehne Doremus (born May 11, 1977) is a retired American professional golfer. Amateur career Kuehne was born in Dallas, Texas. Maria Anna Hjorth (born 15 October 1973) is a Swedish professional golfer. Early years Hjorth was born in Falun. As the youngest of three daughters to Kjell and Monica Hjorth, she first gripped a golf club at three years of age. Six years old, she traveled with her family, to compete in the unofficial Swedish Championship for children, the Colgate Cup, for girls up to 10 years of age.
