2001 Tour De Langkawi
The 2001 Tour de Langkawi was the 6th edition of the Tour de Langkawi, a cycling stage race that took place in Malaysia. It began with prologue on 4 February in Langkawi and ended on 18 February in Merdeka Square, Kuala Lumpur. In fact, this race was rated by the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) as a 2.3 category race. Paolo Lanfranchi, Italian cyclist emerged as the winner of general classification and mountains classification of the race. Paolo Bettini became the winner of points classification and second-placed in general classification. Chris Wherry was third-placed in general classification. became the winner of team classification. Stages The cyclists competed in 12 stages, covering a distance of 1,833.47 kilometres. Prologue did not count towards the overall but many riders competed in the stage. Paolo Lanfranchi (born July 25, 1968 in Gazzaniga, Province of Bergamo) is an Italian former professional road bicycle racer. Originally from Gazzaniga, Italy. Lanfranchi was a dominating figure in the Italian road racing scene by winning many points standings. Turning pro in 1993, he captured his first major victory in winning a Yellow Jersey for General classification of the Tour de Langkawi in 1999 riding for the team, and again in 2001 with the same team. Kluang ( Jawi: كلواڠ), formerly Keluang, is a town in Kluang District, Johor, Malaysia. Kluang was founded in 1915 as the administrative capital of central Johor by the British. Hendricus "Henk" Vogels (born 31 July 1973, in Perth) is an Australian former professional road bicycle racer who retired from competition at the end of the 2008 season, riding with the Toyota-United Pro Cycling Team. He won the Australian national road race title in 1999. He was an Australian Institute of Sport scholarship holder. He was subsequently directeur sportif of the Fly V-Successful Living team. Dungun is a coastal district of the Malaysian state of Terengganu. Kuala Dungun is the capital of the district.
