2001 IBF World Championships
The 2001 IBF World Championships, also known as the World Badminton Championships, were held in the ''Palacio de Deportes de San Pablo'', Seville, Spain, between 3 June and 10 June 2001. Host city selection Eindhoven, Seville, and Seoul submitted bids to host the championships. The Korean bid was withdrawn at the last minute. Seville was announced as the host by International Badminton Federation dUring a council meeting in Copenhagen. Palacio De Deportes De San Pablo
Palacio Municipal De Deportes San Pablo is an arena in Seville, Spain. Built in 1988, it is primarily used for basketball and the home arena of CB Sevilla. The arena can hold up to 10,200 people. Taufik Hidayat
Taufik Hidayat (born 10 August 1981) is an Indonesian retired badminton player. He is a former World, Olympic, Asian Games, and Asian champion, and the youngest world number one in the men's singles. Hidayat has won the Indonesia Open six times (1999, 2000, 2002, 2003, 2004 and 2006). Career summary When he was young, he joined the SGS club, a badminton club in Bandung, where he trained under Iie Sumirat. Chan Chong Ming
Chan Chong Ming (born 16 February 1980) is a former Malaysian badminton player and a current head coach of Malaysian national women's doubles squad. Career Chan competed in badminton at the 2004 Summer Olympics with his then partner, Chew Choon Eng. In the first round, they defeated Theodoros Velkos and George Patis of Greece, but were then defeated in the round of 16 by Zheng Bo and Sang Yang of the China. After his unsuccessful outing in the Olympic Games, Chan's regular doubles partner was changed to Koo Kien Keat. Together, they claimed 2005 Denmark Open title. Chan Chong Ming and Koo Kien Keat won the Malaysia Open in 2006 which was held in Kuching, Sarawak and became the new hope for Malaysia in men's doubles. Chew Choon Eng
Chew Choon Eng (born 28 May 1976) is a former Malaysian badminton player. Currently, he is coaching Malaysian professional pair consist of 2016 Olympic Games silver medallist, Chan Peng Soon/Goh Liu Ying and Goh V Shem/Tan Wee Kiong. Career He was a gold medalists at the 2002 Commonwealth Games in the men's doubles event, also at the 1999 and 2001 Southeast Asian Games in the mixed doubles and men's team events respectively. Kim Dong-moon
Kim Dong-moon (Hangul: 김동문, Hanja: 金東文; born 22 September 1975) is a retired South Korean badminton player who won major titles between the mid-1990s and the mid-2000s (decade), and widely regarded as one of finest men's doubles and mixed doubles players in badminton history. Kim captured the world attention when he unexpectedly winning the gold medal in the mixed doubles event with Gil Young-ah at the 1996 Atlanta Summer Olympics. On his path to greatness, he won gold medals both in men's and mixed doubles at the 1999 World Championships. Kim and Ra Kyung-min, partnered up to become one of the strongest mixed doubles pairings of that time. They did not drop a single match from April to November in 2003. Ha Tae-kwon
Ha Tae-kwon (; born 30 April 1975) is a badminton player from South Korea. Born in Jeonju, Jeollabuk-do, Ha started his career in badminton with the recommendation of Kim Dong-moon in elementary school. He made his international debut in 1992, and won his first Grand Prix title at the 1995 Canada Open. Halim Haryanto
Halim Haryanto Ho (born 23 September 1976) is an Indonesian former badminton player. He is a former world champion along with his doubles partner Tony Gunawan. Haryanto immigrated to the United States in 2004 to pursue a coaching career. He now resides in San Diego, California, Apex Badminton Academy head coach at SDBCC in San Diego and representing the United States as a badminton player of Team USA. Tony Gunawan (; born 9 April 1975) is an Indonesian-born American former badminton player. He gained several international achievements for Indonesia and later for the United States, including Olympic gold medal and world champion title. Zhang Ning
Zhang Ning (; born 19 May 1975) is a former Chinese badminton player. She won the Olympic gold medal twice for women's singles in both 2004 and 2008. She has played badminton on the world scene since the mid-1990s and has been particularly successful since 2002 while in her late twenties and early thirties, relatively late for singles at the highest level, and especially for top players in the Chinese system who are developed very early. Gong Zhichao (; born 15 December 1977) is a former badminton player from the People's Republic of China. Career Gong was one of the world's leading women's singles players between her first international titles in 1996 and her retirement in 2002. Zhou Mi (badminton)
Zhou Mi (; born 18 February 1979) is a Chinese badminton player. During much of her career she represented the People's Republic of China, but since 2007 she has represented Hong Kong which has a sports program and teams independent from those of the mainland. In 2010, she received a 2-year ban, for failing a drugs test. Career Since 1998 Zhou has won more than twenty international singles titles on the world circuit and has achieved number one world rankings at various times.
