The 2001 European Winter Throwing Challenge was held on 17 and 18 March at Stade Charles-Ehrmann in Nice, France. It was the first edition of the athletics competition for throwing events organised by the European Athletics Association. A total of 151 athletes from 22 countries entered the competition. . RFEA. Lorraine Amanda Shaw (born 2 April 1968) is an English hammer thrower. Athletics career Shaw's personal best throw, and the previous British record, is 68.93 metres, achieved in June 2003 in Loughborough. She competed at four consecutive Commonwealth Games; starting in 1994 when she represented England in the hammer throw event, at the 1994 Commonwealth Games in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada. Four years later she represented England and won a silver medal, at the 1998 Commonwealth Games in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Timo Tompuri
Timo Antero Tompuri (born June 9, 1969 in Pernå, Finland) is a Finnish discus, discus thrower, who throws for the team Yleisurheilu-Team Sahalahti. Although he was coached by Kari Mattila until 2004, he currently coaches himself. Standing 187 cm tall and weighing in at 120 kg, he is a five-time Finnish champion in discus. Tompuri started competing in athletics later than most, at the age of 26. He threw the discus more than 60 m for the first time in 1997 and won his first Finnish Championships in Athletics, Finnish Championship in the summer of 1998. Tompuri has also won the Finnish Championships in Athletics, Finnish Championships in 2000, 2001, 2003 and 2005; placed second in 1999, 2002 and 2004; and placed third in 2006. Gheorghe Gușet (28 May 1968 – 12 June 2017) was a Romanian shot putter. He competed at the 1992, 2000 and 2004 Olympics and had his best result in 2004, aged 36 (14th place). Gușet was noted for being competitive in his late 30s, and set his all-time personal record aged 38, while most shot putters peak in their late 20s or early 30s. The shot put is a track and field event involving "putting" (throwing) a heavy spherical ball—the ''shot''—as far as possible. The shot put competition for men has been a part of the modern Olympics since their revival in 1896, and women's competition began in 1948. Lenuţa Nicoleta Grasu is a retired Romanian discus thrower. She was born on 11 September 1971 in Secuieni as Nicoleta Grădinaru, but took a new surname when she married fellow discus thrower Costel Grasu. Vita Pavlysh
Viktoriya Anatoliïvna Pavlysh ( uk, Вікторія Анатопіївна Павпиш; born 15 January 1969 in Kharkov, Ukrainian SSR, Soviet Union) is a former track and field athlete who specialized in the shot put. Pavlysh was stripped of her 1999 IAAF World Indoor Championships gold medal after she had tested positive for anabolic steroid stanozolol at the event in Maebashi, Japan. She claimed that she may have taken the drug to aid her recovery from injury. For this offence she received a two-year ban. Five years later at the 2004 IAAF World Indoor Championships in Budapest, Hungary she won the title again only to fail the drug test for the same reason. She was again stripped of her title and banned from athletics for life. Whether because of her drug-use or not, Pavlysh was famed for her very muscular lower body. 2001 World Championships In Athletics
The 8th World Championships in Athletics, under the auspices of the International Association of Athletics Federations, were held at Commonwealth Stadium in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada between 3 August and 12 August and was the first time the event had visited North America. The music for the Opening and Closing Ceremonies was composed by Canadian composers Jan Randall and Cassius Khan. The ceremonies also featured a 1000 voice choir, and the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra. Edmonton defeated bids from Paris, France (which hosted the next edition) and the San Francisco Bay Area in the United States to host the event. IAAF World Championships In Athletics
The World Athletics Championships (until 2019 known as the World Championships in Athletics) are a biennial athletics competition organized by World Athletics (formerly IAAF, International Association of Athletics Federations). Alongside the Olympic Games, they represent the highest level championships of senior international outdoor athletics competition for track and field athletics globally, including marathon running and race walking. Separate World Championships are held by World Athletics for certain other outdoor events, including cross-country running and half-marathon, as well as indoor and age-group championships.
