2001 Eastern Creek V8 Supercar Round
The 2001 Eastern Creek V8 Supercar round was the third round of the 2001 Shell Championship Series. It was held on the weekend of 28 to 29 November at Eastern Creek Raceway in Sydney, New South Wales. Race report Following the Clipsal 500, there was controversy in relation to incidents going unpunished by race officials. For this event, the officials commented that they would be more strict on any offences. Craig Lowndes initially won race one, with Marcos Ambrose finishing second. This result was overturned, however after Lowndes and Ambrose were penalized for two separate incidents throughout the race. Lowndes was given a time penalty for passing Greg Murphy under safety car conditions, which saw him relegated to 12th. Ambrose was given a time penalty for an illegal overtake on Murphy which saw the rookie bumped back to 13th for race two. After these penalties were enforced, Murphy was declared the winner. Glenn Seton (born 5 May 1965) is an Australian racing driver. He won the Australian Touring Car Championship in 1993 and 1997 while driving for his own team. Although he never won the Bathurst 1000 like his father Barry did in 1965, Glenn started from pole position in 1994 and 1996, and finished second three times. Paul Radisich (born 9 October 1962, in Auckland) is a retired New Zealand racing driver and businessman of Croat origin. David Besnard, (born 21 January 1977 in Sydney, Australia) is a retired professional racing driver. Career history Starting in karts in 1991, he quickly proceeded into Formula Ford in 1995. Steven Johnson (born 6 September 1974) is an Australian racing driver. He is the son of former racer and now team-owner Dick Johnson. He competed full-time for Dick Johnson Racing from 2000–2012. Johnson is married and has two children. Larkham Motor Sport was a motorsport team contesting the V8 Supercar Championship between 1995 and 2005. History Larkham Motor Sport was formed in 1990 with the intent of furthering Mark Larkham's career after he won the 1989 Australian Formula Ford Championship. Russell Ingall (born 24 February 1964 in London, England) is a former full-time Australian V8 Supercar driver. He won his V8 Supercars title in 2005, and finished second in 1998, 1999, 2001 and 2004. Garry Rogers Motorsport is an Australian motor racing team. It is owned by retired racing driver Garry Rogers who began the team to further his own racing efforts.
