2001 Detroit Lions Season
The 2001 Detroit Lions season was the franchise's 72nd season in the National Football League. Marty Mornhinweg was named the 21st head coach in franchise history on January 21, 2001, after owner William Clay Ford, Sr. controversially fired 2000 interim coach Gary Moeller. The season began with much optimism, with the Lions hoping to improve on their 9–7 record from 2000; however, the Lions were extremely disappointing and had the worst start to an NFL season since the 1986 Indianapolis Colts began 0–13. NFC North
The National Football Conference – Northern Division or NFC North is one of the four divisions of the National Football Conference (NFC) in the National Football League (NFL). Nicknamed the "Black and Blue Division" for the rough and tough rivalry games between the teams, it currently has four members: the Chicago Bears, Detroit Lions, Green Bay Packers, and Minnesota Vikings. The NFC North was previously known as the NFC Central from 1970 to 2001. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers were previously members, from 1977, one year after they joined the league as an expansion team, until 2002 when they moved to the NFC South. 1975 Detroit Lions Season
The 1975 Detroit Lions season was the 46th season in franchise history. It was the first season for the Detroit Lions at the new Pontiac Metropolitan Stadium in Pontiac, a Detroit suburb, which was built specifically for the team. It was also their first ever season outside Detroit since the franchise's move and name change in 1934; its first three seasons were played in Portsmouth, Ohio as the Portsmouth Spartans. Mike McMahon (American Football)
Michael Edward McMahon (born February 8, 1979) is a former American football quarterback who played for five seasons in the National Football League (NFL), mostly serving in a backup quarterback role. He spent one season in the Canadian Football League (CFL), and one season in the United Football League (UFL). After playing college football for Rutgers, he was drafted by the Detroit Lions in the fifth round of the 2001 NFL Draft. He played for the Lions for four seasons from 2001 to 2004, and for the Philadelphia Eagles in 2005. McMahon played for the Toronto Argonauts and Montreal Alouettes of the CFL in 2007. 2000 Grambling State Tigers Football Team
The 2000 Grambling State Tigers football team represented Grambling State University as a member of the West Division of the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) during the 2000 NCAA Division I-AA football season. Led by third-year head coach Doug Williams, the Tigers compiled an overall record of 10–2 with a mark of 6–1 in conference play, winning the SWAC West Division title. Grambling State beat in the SWAC Championship Game to the conference title. The team was also recognized as a black college football national champion. Scotty Anderson (born November 24, 1979) is a former American football wide receiver in the National Football League (NFL) and the Arena Football League (AFL). The 2000 Texas Longhorns football team represented the University of Texas at Austin during the 2000 NCAA Division I-A football season. They were represented in the Big 12 Conference in the South Division. They played their home games at Darrell K Royal–Texas Memorial Stadium in Austin, Texas. Defensive Tackle
A defensive tackle (DT) is a position in American football that will typically line up on the line of scrimmage, opposite one of the offensive guards, however he may also line up opposite one of the tackles. Defensive tackles are typically the largest and strongest of the defensive players. Depending on a team's individual defensive scheme, a defensive tackle may be called upon to fill several different roles. These roles may include merely holding the point of attack by refusing to be moved, or penetrating a certain gap between offensive linemen to break up a play in the opponent's backfield. If a defensive tackle reads a pass play, his primary responsibility is to pursue the quarterback, or simply knock the pass down at the line if it is within arm's reach. Shaun Christopher O'Shea Rogers (born March 12, 1979) is a former American football defensive tackle. He played college football for the University of Texas. He was drafted by the Detroit Lions in the 2nd round (61st overall) of the 2001 NFL Draft. Center or Centre (C) is a position in gridiron football. The center is the innermost lineman of the offensive line on a football team's offense. The center is also the player who passes (or "snaps") the ball between his legs to the quarterback at the start of each play. Dominic Raiola
Dominic Raiola (; born December 30, 1978) is a former American football center. He was a second-round pick of the Detroit Lions in the 2001 NFL Draft, and played his entire 14-year career for the Lions of the National Football League (NFL). Prior to that he played college football for the University of Nebraska and earned All-American. In June 2016, Raiola was hired by the Detroit Lions as a strength and conditioning assistant coach. Early years Raiola was born in Honolulu, Hawaii. He attended Saint Louis School in Honolulu, and played for the Saint Louis Crusaders high school football team.
