2001 Belarusian Premier League
The 2001 Belarusian Premier League was the 11th season of top-tier football in Belarus. It started on April 11 and ended on November 7, 2001. Slavia Mozyr were the defending champions. Team changes from 2000 season Due to league reduction from 16 to 14 teams, three worst placed teams in 2000 – Lida, Torpedo-Kadino Mogilev and Kommunalnik Slonim relegated to the First League, while only one team, winners of 2000 First League Molodechno, replaced them. Molodechno changed their name to Molodechno-2000 following the promotion. Naftan-Devon Novopolotsk shortened their name to Naftan Novopolotsk midway through 2001 season. Overview Belshina Bobruisk won their 1st champions title and qualified for the next season's Champions League. The championship runners-up Dinamo Minsk and 2001-02 Cup winners Gomel qualified for UEFA Cup. Belarusian Premier League
The Belarusian Premier League or the Vyšejšaja Liha or the Vysheyshaya Liga ( be, Вышэйшая ліга, russian: Высшая лига, "Top League") is the top division of professional football in Belarus, and is organized by the Belarusian Football Federation. The number of teams in the competition has varied over the years from as high as 17 (1992–93 season) to as low as 11 (2012). As of 2016, the league included 16 teams. Each team plays every other team twice during the course of the season. At the end of the season, the two teams with the fewest points are automatically relegated to the Belarusian First League, while the third worst team plays a promotion-relegation playoff against the third best team from the second tier. The top two teams from the Belarusian First League automatically win promotion to the Premier League. FC Shakhtyor Soligorsk ( be, ФК Шахцёр Салігорск, ''FK Shakhtsyor Salihorsk'') is a Belarusian Premier League football club, playing in the city of Soligorsk (Salihorsk) . History The club was founded in 1961. During Soviet era Shakhtyor Soligorsk was playing in top or second division of the Belarusian SSR league, occasionally dropping to lower tiers (Minsk Oblast league) for a short time. In 1971, Shakhtyor absorbed two other local Soligorsk teams (Khimik and Gornyak). Their best results came at the end of Soviet days, when the team finished as league runners-up twice (1988, 1990) and won the Belarusian SSR Cup three times (1985, 1986, 1988). FC Dnepr Mogilev ( be, ФК Дняпро Магілёў, ''FK Dniapro Mahilyow''; russian: ФК Днепр Могилёв) is a Belarusian football team, playing in the city of Mogilev. Their home stadium is Spartak Stadium. History Dnepr Mogilev was founded in 1960 under the name Khimik Mogilev and began playing in the Class B (second tier league) of Soviet championship, which at the time consisted of over 140 teams split into several regional zones. In 1963, the team relegated to the third tier due to league structure reorganization and changed their name to Spartak Mogilev. In 1970, they dropped to the fourth tier, but the next year were brought back to the third, both times due to further league reorganizations. 2001–02 Belarusian Cup was the eleventh season of the Belarusian annual football cup competition. Contrary to the league season, it is conducted in a fall-spring rhythm. The first games were played on August 15, 2001. Winners of the Cup qualified for the UEFA Cup Qualifying round. First round The draw was conducted on 31 July 2001. Four First League clubs ( Darida Minsk Raion, Zvezda-VA-BGU Minsk, Kommunalnik Slonim and Torpedo-Kadino Mogilev) were given a bye to the next round by a drawing of lots. 2000 Belarusian First League was the tenth season of 2nd level football championship in Belarus. It started in April and ended in November 2000. Team changes from 1999 season Two best teams of 1999 Belarusian First League ( Kommunalnik Slonim and Vedrich-97 Rechitsa) were promoted to Belarusian Premier League. They were replaced by two lowest placed teams of 1999 Premier League (Molodechno and Svisloch-Krovlya Osipovichi). Belarusian First League
The Belarusian First League is the second tier of professional football in Belarus. It was created in 1992, following the Belarusian independence. History and format The typical format of the league involves 16 clubs playing a double round-robin tournament over 30 matchdays (with the exception of shortened 1992 and 1995 seasons, which were a single round-robin tournaments).
