2000–01 Hampton Pirates Men's Basketball Team
The 2000–01 Hampton Pirates men's basketball team represented Hampton University during the 2000–01 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. The Pirates were members of the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference and were coached by Steve Merfeld, his fourth year as head coach. The Pirates played home games at the Hampton Convocation Center. Hampton finished the season with a 25–7 record and an 14–4 MEAC record. The season was highlighted by the Pirates winning their first ever game in the NCAA Division I men's basketball tournament, becoming the fourth 15-seed to beat a 2-seed in the tournament. Hampton defeated Iowa State before losing to Georgetown in the second round. Steve Merfeld
Stephen Mark Merfeld (born September 23, 1961) is an American college basketball coach. He currently is the associate head men's basketball coach at Creighton Bluejays men's basketball, Creighton University and previously served as head coach at Hampton Pirates basketball, Hampton University and the Evansville Purple Aces men's basketball, University of Evansville. Career After graduating from the University of Wisconsin–La Crosse, Merfeld began his coaching career with a ten-year stint as an assistant under Jim Larrañaga at Bowling Green Falcons men's basketball, Bowling Green State. He then joined the staff at Hampton, where he was promoted to head coach in 1997 after one season as an assistant coach. Dedmon Center
Dedmon Center is a 3,800-seat multi-purpose arena in Radford, Virginia. Construction started in 1979 and finished in 1981. A natatorium featuring an eight-lane olympic-size pool with a diving well was added in 1987. The Dedmon Center is home to the Radford University Highlanders basketball team. The center is named for Dr. Donald Dedmon, who served as president of Radford University from 1972 until 1995 when he retired. It was the tenth air-supported roof built in the United States. The air-supported fabric roof was removed during a major renovation in April 2008 and replaced with a fabric roof supported by steel trusses. Brown County Veterans Memorial Arena
The Brown County Veterans Memorial Arena (more commonly known as the Brown County Arena) was a 5,248-seat multi-purpose arena in Ashwaubenon, Wisconsin, situated on the corner of Lombardi Avenue and Oneida Street, across from Lambeau Field. The Green Bay Phoenix men's basketball team is an NCAA Division I college basketball team competing in the Horizon League for the University of Wisconsin–Green Bay. The head coach for the Green Bay Phoenix is Will Ryan.
