2000–01 Cypriot First Division
The 2000–01 Cypriot First Division was the 62nd season of the Cypriot top-level football league. Omonia won their 18th title. Format Fourteen teams participated in the 2000–01 Cypriot First Division. All teams played against each other twice, once at their home and once away. The team with the most points at the end of the season crowned champions. The last three teams were relegated to the 2001–02 Cypriot Second Division. The champions ensured their participation in the 2001–02 UEFA Champions League and the runners-up in the 2001–02 UEFA Cup. The teams had to declare their interest to participate in the 2001 UEFA Intertoto Cup before the end of the championship. At the end of the championship, the higher placed team among the interested ones participated in the Intertoto Cup (if they had not secured their participation in any other UEFA competition). Cypriot First Division
The Cypriot First Division ( el, Πρωτάθλημα Α΄ Κατηγορίας) is the top tier football league competition in Cyprus, run by the Cyprus Football Association. Since February 2016, it is sponsored by Cyta and is thus officially known as the Cyta Championship. The league is contested by 14 teams and runs from August to May, with the three lowest-placed teams being relegated to the Cypriot Second Division, and replaced by the top three teams in that division. Ethnikos Achna FC
Ethnikos Achna Football Club ( el, Αθλητικός Σύλλογος Εθνικός Άχνας), commonly known as Ethnikos Achna, or simply Ethnikos, is a Cypriot football club based in the village of Achna. Founded in 1968, the club currently plays in the Cypriot Second Division. Ethnikos' home ground is the Dasaki Stadium, which has a capacity of 7000 seats. They are the only Cypriot team to win a UEFA competition. History The club played in the Cypriot Second Division until 1983 when it was promoted to the Cypriot First Division but was immediately relegated. Ethnikos was promoted to the First Division again in 1986 and stayed there for four seasons. Athlitikos Syllogos Evagoras Paphos () was a Cypriot football club based in the city of Paphos. Founded in 1961, was playing sometimes in First and sometimes in the Second Division. It has adopted its name from Evagoras Pallikarides, who was a hero from Paphos who was hanged by British Colonists, as he was an EOKA guerrilla, fighting for the freedom of Cyprus. The 1999–2000 Cypriot Second Division was the 45th season of the Cypriot second-level football league. Digenis won their 2nd title. Format Fourteen teams participated in the 1999–2000 Cypriot Second Division. All teams played against each other twice, once at their home and once away. The team with the most points at the end of the season crowned champions. The first three teams were promoted to 2000–01 Cypriot First Division and the last three teams were relegated to the 2000–01 Cypriot Third Division. However, in the summer, after the end of the championship, Evagoras Paphos merged with APOP Paphos to form AEP Paphos (AEP took the place of APOP to 2000–01 Cypriot First Division). Because of this, playoff matches were played between the bottom three teams of 1999–2000 Cypriot Second Division and the fourth team of 1999–2000 Cypriot Third Division (ASIL Lysi), for the extra place in 2000–01 Cypriot Second Division.
