2000 Mar Del Plata Sevens
The 2000 Mar del Plata Sevens was a rugby sevens tournament that took place at the Estadio José María Minella in Mar del Plata between the 12–13 January 2000. It was the fourth edition of the Mar del Plata Sevens and was also the fourth round of the held in Argentina as the fourth round of the 1999–2000 World Sevens Series. During the tournament, the first draw in the series history occurred when Samoa and Australia played out an 14-all draw in Pool D. In the cup final, Fiji took out their second cup final of the season defeating New Zealand 26-14. The hosts (Argentina) took out the plate while Spain won the bowl. 1999–2000 World Sevens Series
The 1999–2000 World Sevens Series was the first season of the World Rugby Sevens Series, global circuit for men's national rugby sevens teams, organised by the World Rugby, International Rugby Board (now known as World Rugby). The series ran from December 1999 to May 2000 and incorporated ten tournaments spread over five continents. New Zealand national rugby sevens team, New Zealand was the series champion, winning five of the tournament events. Fiji national rugby sevens team, Fiji finished as runner-up, eight points behind despite winning the remaining five tournaments. 2000 Punta Del Este Sevens
The 2000 Punta del Este Sevens was a Rugby Sevens tournament held in Punta del Este, Uruguay and was the third leg of the 1999-2000 World Sevens Series. The competition took place on 7 and 8 January at the Campus de Maldonado. The hosts, Uruguay were eliminated in the Plate semi-finals. For the third consecutive event in the Series, the Cup final was contested between Fiji and New Zealand. The Punta del Este Sevens was not included on the World Sevens circuit for the 2000-01 series. Teams Sixteen national teams played in the tournament with New Zealand and Fiji being seeded one and two due to winning the previous two tournaments in Dubai and Stellenbosch. 2000 Wellington Sevens
The 2000 Wellington Sevens was an rugby sevens tournament that took place at the Westpac Stadium in Wellington between the 4–5 February 2000. It was the first edition of the Wellington Sevens and the fifth round of the 1999-2000 World Sevens Series. After finishing on top of Pool B with three straight wins, Fiji took out their third sevens title of the season defeating hosts, New Zealand 24-14 in the cup final to regain the series lead. Canada took out the plate final while France won the bowl final over Croatia. Chile National Rugby Sevens Team
The Chile national rugby sevens team is a minor national sevens side. In the 2008 USA Sevens they lost to Australia 24-14 in the Shield finals. In preparation for the 2018 Rugby World Cup Sevens they toured Fiji, a month before the World Cup. Chile was invited to the 2021 World Rugby Sevens Series that was held in Canada, in Vancouver and Edmonton. They have participated at two Olympic repechage tournaments, in 2016 and 2020, but were unsuccessful to qualify for the Olympics both times. Glen Ella
Glen Joseph Ella (born 5 June 1959) is a former Australian rugby union player and coach. Ella played as a Fullback for Randwick, Manly and New South Wales. Ella also represented Australia in the 1980s, however, did not play at the first Rugby World Cup in the 1987 Rugby World Cup. Biography Born in La Perouse, New South Wales, Ella was one of 12 children. Two of his brothers, Mark (his twin) and Gary, and one of his sisters, Marcia, represented Australia in sports - his brothers in rugby union and his sister in netball. He attended school at Matraville High School. Playing career Ella took up playing at Matraville High School, soon representing New South Wales in schoolboy rugby. The South African national rugby sevens team competes in the World Rugby Sevens Series, the Rugby World Cup Sevens, the Summer Olympic Games and the Commonwealth Games.
