2000 College Baseball All-America Team
An All-American team is an honorary sports team composed of the best amateur players of a specific season for each team position—who in turn are given the honorific "All-America" and typically referred to as "All-American athletes", or simply "All-Americans". Although the honorees generally do not compete together as a unit, the term is used in U.S. team sports to refer to players who are selected by members of the national media. Walter Camp selected the first All-America team in the early days of American football in 1889. The NCAA recognizes three different All-America selectors for the 2000 college baseball season: the American Baseball Coaches Association (since 1947), ''Baseball America'' (since 1981), and ''Collegiate Baseball'' (since 1991). Major League Baseball All-Star Game
The Major League Baseball All-Star Game, also known as the "Midsummer Classic", is an annual professional baseball game sanctioned by Major League Baseball (MLB) and contested between the all-stars from the American League (AL) and National League (NL). Starting fielders are selected by fans, pitchers are selected by managers, and reserves are selected by players and managers. The game is usually played on the second or third Tuesday in July, and is meant to mark the symbolic halfway point of the MLB season (though not the mathematical halfway point, which, for most seasons, falls within the previous calendar week). ''Collegiate Baseball Newspaper'' (also known as ''Collegiate Baseball Magazine'' and ''Collegiate Baseball'') is an American publication based in Arizona that considers itself the "voice of amateur baseball" which has been published for over 40 years. The publication gives out several awards: ''Collegiate Baseball'' Player of the Year, ''Collegiate Baseball'' Coach of the Year, and ''Collegiate Baseball'' All-Americans. It is published twice a month from January until June, and then once each in September and October. The "Collegiate Baseball" newspaper poll is college sports' oldest baseball poll. Jason Roger Anderson (born June 9, 1979) is an American former professional baseball pitcher and current college baseball coach. He is currently serving as head coach of the Eastern Illinois Panthers baseball team. Career In 1997, Anderson was all-state during his senior year at Danville High School. He compiled a 14-1 record and tied the Illinois state record for consecutive shutouts with six in a row. Justin Morgan Wayne (born April 16, 1979) is an American former professional baseball pitcher, who played for the Florida Marlins of Major League Baseball for three seasons. The Stetson Hatters baseball team represents Stetson University, which is located in DeLand, Florida. The Hatters are an NCAA Division I college baseball program that competes in the ASUN Conference. They began competing in Division I in 1972 and joined the ASUN Conference in 1986. The Stetson Hatters play all home games off-campus at Melching Field at Conrad Park. Leonard Edward DiNardo (born September 19, 1979) is an American former professional baseball pitcher. He played in Major League Baseball (MLB) from 2004 through 2009, with the Boston Red Sox, Oakland Athletics, and Kansas City Royals. Listed at and , he both threw and batted left-handed. Kip McKey Bouknight (born November 16, 1978) is an American professional baseball pitcher who most recently played with the Somerset Patriots of the Atlantic League of Professional Baseball. High school career Bouknight was born in Columbia, South Carolina and graduated from Brookland-Cayce High School in 1997.
