The 2000 Boston Marathon was the 104th running of the annual marathon race in Boston, United States and was held on April 17. The elite men's race was won by Kenya's Elijah Lagat in a time of 2:09:47 hours and the women's race was won in 2:26:11 by Catherine Ndereba, also Kenyan. Catherine Ndereba
Catherine Nyambura Ndereba (born 21 July 1972) is a Kenyan marathon runner. She has twice won the marathon at the World Championships in Athletics and won silver medals at the Summer Olympic Games in 2004 and 2008. She is also a four-time winner of the Boston Marathon. Ndereba broke the women's marathon world record in 2001, running 2:18:47 at the Chicago Marathon. In 2008, Ndereba was described by ''Chicago Tribune'' sportswriter Philip Hersh as the greatest women's marathoner of all time. Career Ndereba is from Gatunganga in Nyeri District, and went to Ngorano Secondary School where she pursued her running career. Elana Meyer, OIS, (born 10 October 1966) is a South African long-distance runner who won the silver medal at the 1992 Summer Olympics in the 10,000 metres event. Meyer set the 15 kilometres road running African record of 46:57 minutes in November 1991 in Cape Town. The record was equalled by Mestawet Tufa in 2008.
