Dutch Television
Television in the Netherlands was officially Timeline of the introduction of television in countries, introduced in 1951. In the Netherlands, the television market is divided between a number of commercial networks, such as RTL Nederland, and a system of public broadcasters sharing three channels, NPO 1, NPO 2, and NPO 3. Imported programmes (except those for children), as well as news interviews with responses in a foreign language, are almost always shown in their original language, with subtitles. Reception In the Netherlands, television can be watched analog or digital (the latter with the option of HDTV or Ultra-high-definition television, UHD). Over 2018, 89.2% of Dutch viewers received television digitally. Analogue television is only available via some cable operators and some fiber to the home providers, since the Dutch government ended analogue reception via airwaves in 2006. De Club Van Sinterklaas
''De Club van Sinterklaas'' (English literal title: ''The Club of Sinterklaas'', international title: ''St. Nicholas & Friends'') was a Dutch seasonal children's telenovella between 1999 and 2009 based on the legend of Sinterklaas and Zwarte Piet. Since 2010, ''De club van Sinterklaas'' continues as a YouTube channel and a film series. The series attracted mass popularity in the Netherlands during its television running time. Several of the series theme songs charted in the Dutch Single Top 100 and its 2005 and 2006 theme songs even topped the charts. It became the only Sinterklaas-related children's programme to be ever nominated for a Gouden Stuiver, where it lost out to ''Het Huis Anubis''. ''Goudkust'' () is a Dutch television series, which was broadcast by SBS 6. When SBS 6 was not happy about the results of the series, it sold the series to Veronica TV (SBS), FOX 8. When Fox Broadcasting Company, FOX in 2001 sold Veronica TV (SBS), FOX 8 to SBS Broadcasting the series was aired on NET 5, where the series stopped, something that SBS 6 did two years earlier. Goede Tijden, Slechte Tijden
''Goede tijden, slechte tijden'' (, ), also known as ''GTST'' or simply ''Goede tijden'', is the longest-running Dutch soap opera, which began on 1 October 1990 on RTL4. The programme was the first daily (every workday) soap in the Netherlands and Europe. The soap is produced by Joop van den Ende and to date over 6,300 episodes have been broadcast. It was inspired by the Australian soap ''The Restless Years'', although it started following its own course during the third season. GTST is broadcast Monday to Friday at 20:00. At its peak, around 1.5 million viewers watched each episode. Nowadays, the show is watched linearly by a total of 800.000 viewers, with an additional 300.000 viewers on streaming platform Videoland. It is the highest-rated soap opera in the Netherlands. The soap mainly revolves around the lives of the families Alberts, Sanders, De Jong, Van Houten and Bouwhuis. Het Klokhuis
''Het Klokhuis'' ( Dutch for "The Applecore") is a daily documentary show for primary school children and young teenagers produced by ntr of the Netherlands. It first aired in 1988. It is broadcast every weekday at 18:25 on NPO 3 and lasts about 15 minutes. The subjects vary widely. Quite often, factories are visited, where a complete production process is explained. The serious parts are interspersed with sketches, which sometimes have aspects that only adults would understand, whilst still remaining funny for children. In 1990, there were plans to discontinue the show due to high costs, but after protests and questions asked in the Dutch parliament, it was decided to keep the show. In a later year, a bill was made to discontinue the production company, which endangered the show again. Jeugdjournaal
Jeugdjournaal (; "youth news programme") is a Dutch television news programme produced by the Dutch public service broadcaster NOS for children. The programme has been on air since 1981. The main evening programme airs at 7:00 pm (CET), running for 20 minutes every night on NPO 3 (formerly Nederland 3). A 5-minute short version also airs on weekdays at 8:45 am. Both programmes are also broadcast on the international satellite Dutch-language television station BVN. The aim of ''Jeugdjournaal'' was to present news that is both of interest to and within the mindset of a younger audience, without shying away from the main national and international news headlines. ''Sesamstraat'' () is a Dutch television series in the Netherlands, and a spin-off of the U.S. children's program ''Sesame Street''. In its early days the show was broadcast in Flanders (Belgium) as well. It is the second longest-running foreign adaptation of ''Sesame Street'' without interruptions, behind only ''Sesamstraße''. Characters Muppet characters Pino Pino is one of the most important Muppets in the children's program, and has been a part of the central cast since the show started airing in 1976. He has the appearance of a giant blue bird whose design closely resembles that of Big Bird, who is his cousin. NOS Journaal
NOS Journaal is the umbrella name for the news broadcasts of the Dutch public broadcaster NOS on radio and television. The division of the NOS responsible for gathering and broadcasting the news is known as ''NOS Nieuws'', and is based at the Media Park in Hilversum; the NOS also has fully equipped radio and television studios in The Hague, from which political programmes are often produced. History On 5 January 1956, the Nederlandse Televise Stichting (Dutch Television Foundation, the forerunner of the NOS) broadcast the first ''NTS-journaal'' bulletin: initially, these were broadcast three times a week. Bart Spring in 't Veld (born 18 September 1976 in Roelofarendsveen) is a Dutch television producer and the first winner of Big Brother in the world: in 1999 he won the first Big Brother in the Netherlands. Marlayne
Marleen Sahupala (née van den Broek; born 1 July 1971), known professionally as Marlayne or Marlayne Sahupala, is a Dutch singer, television presenter and newsreader. She is known for representing the Netherlands in the Eurovision Song Contest 1999 with the song " One Good Reason". Career Eurovision Song Contest Marlayne had mainly worked as a backing vocalist for singers such as René Froger when in 1999, her song " One Good Reason" was chosen from ten candidates to represent the Netherlands in the 44th Eurovision Song Contest held in Jerusalem. "One Good Reason" was the first Dutch entry to be sung in English since 1976, following the abolition of the national language rule for the 1999 contest. It received a total of 71 points, placing eighth out of 23 entries. Big Brother 1 (Netherlands)
''Big Brother 1999'' is the first season of the Dutch version of ''Big Brother'', and also served as the debut season of the '' Big Brother franchise''. The show ran between September 16 and December 30, 1999 for a total of 106 days and was broadcast by the Dutch television channel Veronica. The specially built house was located at a factory-site in Almere and presented by Rolf Wouters and Daphne Deckers. Development The program was an instant hit and experienced exceptionally high ratings.
