The Men's 1999 World Amateur Boxing Championships were held in Houston, United States from August 15 to August 29. The tenth edition of this competition, a year before the Summer Olympics in Sydney, Australia, was organised by the world governing body for amateur boxing AIBA. George Olteanu (born May 3, 1974 in Ștefănești, Argeș) is a former boxer from Romania, who competed for his native country at the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta, United States. Mohammadqodir Abdullaev ( uz, Muhammadqodir Abdullayev; born 15 November 1973), best known as Muhammad Abdullaev, is an Uzbekistani former professional boxer who competed from 2001 to 2011, and challenged once for the WBO light-welterweight title in 2005. Ovidiu (, historical name: ''Canara'', tr, Kanara) is a town situated a few kilometres north of Constanța in Constanța County, Northern Dobruja, Romania. Ovidiu is quite small, with a population of around 12,000, and many wealthy inhabitants of Constanța retire there.
