1999 European Amateur Team Championship
The 1999 European Amateur Team Championship took place 29 June – 3 July at Golf Club Monticello in Cassina Rizzardi, 5 kilometres south-west of the city center of Como, Lombardy region, Italy. It was the 21st men's golf European Amateur Team Championship. Format Each team consisted of six players, playing two rounds of an opening stroke-play qualifying competition over two days, counting the five best scores each day for each team. The eight best teams formed flight A, in knock-out match-play over the next three days. The teams were seeded based on their positions after the stroke play. The first placed team were drawn to play the quarter-final against the eight placed team, the second against the seventh, the third against the sixth and the fourth against the fifth. Martin Wiegele
Martin Wiegele (born 11 July 1978) is an Austrian professional golfer. Wiegele was born in Graz. He turned professional in 2003 when he joined the second tier Challenge Tour. He enjoyed some success during his first season finishing fourth on the end of season rankings to graduate to the top level European Tour for 2004. He almost won his first European Tour event he ever played, losing a playoff against Marcus Fraser in the 2003 BMW Russian Open. He could not keep his European Tour card and had to go back to the Challenge Tour. He struggled for form during the next few seasons due to massive swing changes, before picking up his first big victory at the 2007 Lexus Open. He went on to be medalist at the European Tour Qualifying School at the end of the season to regain his place at the top level. Garth McGimpsey
Garth McGimpsey (born 17 July 1955) is an amateur golfer from Bangor, Northern Ireland. Playing career McGimpsey won The Amateur Championship in 1985. He beat Graham Homewood, England, 8 and 7 in the final at Royal Dornoch Golf Club, Sutherland, Scotland. His win gave an invitation to the Masters in 1986 and 1987 but he failed to make the cut on either occasion. He also played in The Open Championship in 1985 and 1986 but failed to make the cut. Michael Hoey (golfer)
Michael George Wilfred Hoey (born 13 February 1979) is a retired Northern Irish professional golfer who played on the European Tour and the Challenge Tour. Amateur career Hoey was born in Ballymoney but played much of his early golf at Shandon Park Golf Club in East Belfast. He won the British Amateur Championship in 2001 and was a member of the victorious 2001 Great Britain & Ireland Walker Cup team. As British Amateur Champion, he was invited to play in the Masters Tournament in 2002, where he missed the cut by a single stroke. He turned professional later that year. Marcel Siem (born 15 July 1980) is a German professional golfer who plays on the European Tour. Career Siem was born in Mettmann. He turned professional in 2000 and came through Qualifying School to join the European Tour in 2002. He was again successful at Qualifying School in 2002. His first win on the European Tour came at the 2004 Dunhill Championship. Siem then had to wait eight years before picking up his second win in 2012 at the Alstom Open de France. Grégory Havret (born 25 November 1976) is a French professional golfer. Career Havret won the French Amateur Championship three years in a row from 1997 to 1999, and in 1999 he won the European Amateur. He also won a minor professional tournament as an amateur, the 1998 Omnium National. Havret turned professional in 1999 and won a place on the European Tour at the 2000 Qualifying School. He finished 60th on the Order of Merit in 2001, his rookie season, recording a maiden tour victory at the Italian Open. Gary P. Wolstenholme MBE (born 21 August 1960) is an English professional golfer, known for his long amateur career, who now plays on the European Senior Tour. Wolstenholme was born in Egham, Surrey. His father was Guy Wolstenholme a professional golfer. He has won The Amateur Championship twice (1991, 2003) as well as many other amateur tournaments around the world. He has played on six Walker Cup teams and is the all-time points leader for the Great Britain and Ireland side. In September 2008, at the age of 48, Wolstenholme turned professional in anticipation of playing senior professional golf in 2010. Graeme Storm
Graeme Raymond Storm (born 13 March 1978) is an English professional golfer. Career Storm was born in Hartlepool. He learnt his trade at Hartlepool Golf Club, where he still holds the course record of 62. He won The Amateur Championship in 1999 and represented Great Britain & Ireland in the Walker Cup, before turning professional in 2000. Storm initially had difficulty establishing himself on the European Tour, and took a job in a local cake factory in the off season to help finance his early years as a professional. In 2004 he recorded two wins on the second tier Challenge Tour on his way to fourth in the end of season rankings, and automatic graduation back to the European Tour for 2005.
