1999 Canada Cup
The Canada Cup ( Maple Cup) of 1999 was an international football (soccer) tournament played at the Commonwealth Stadium in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada from 2 June 1999 to 6 June 1999. It included hosts Canada, Iran, Ecuador and Guatemala, which replaced the Brazil Olympic Team. All games were considered full FIFA international games. Ecuador's striker Ariel Graziani became top scorer of the event, scoring three goals in three matches. Commonwealth Stadium (Edmonton)
Commonwealth Stadium is an open-air, multipurpose stadium located in the McCauley neighbourhood of Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. It has a seating capacity of 56,302, making it the largest open-air stadium in Canada. Primarily used for Canadian football, it also hosts athletics, soccer, rugby union and concerts. Construction commenced in 1975 and the venue opened ahead of the 1978 Commonwealth Games (hence its name), replacing the adjacent Clarke Stadium as the home of the Edmonton Eskimos (the Elks' name until 2020). It received a major expansion ahead of the 1983 Summer Universiade, when it reached a capacity of 60,081. Its main tenants are the Edmonton Elks of the Canadian Football League (CFL), and has hosted five Grey Cups, the CFL's championship game. Davide Antonio Xausa (born 10 March 1976) is a Canadian former soccer player. Club career Xausa started his career with Metro Ford Wolves before accepting a scholarship with the University of Portland where he was a 3 time All American, 4 time WCC 1st team pick and 3 time All Far West Region 1st team. After spending three years at the University of Portland, Xausa was chosen to be part of the 1996 Canadian Olympic team. During that qualification Xausa led the Canadian team to final playoff against Australia for a qualification spot. The attempt was unsuccessful but as a result of his play he relocated to Stoke-on-Trent, England in January 1998 to play for Port Vale on trial. Freddy Alexander García Carrera (born 12 January 1977) is a Guatemalan professional footballer currently playing for Heredia in the Guatemalan third division.
