1998–99 Divizia B
The 1998–99 Divizia B was the 59th season of the second tier of the Romanian football league system. The format has been maintained to two series, each of them having 18 teams. At the end of the season, the winners of the series promoted to Divizia A and the last three places from both series relegated to Divizia C. A promotion play-off was played between the runners-up of the series to decide the third team that promoted to Divizia A. Divizia B
The Liga 2, most often spelled as Liga II, is the second level of the Romanian football league system. The league changed its name from Divizia B just before the start of the 2006–07 Liga II, 2006–07. It is currently Sponsor (commercial), sponsored by Casa Pariurilor, a betting company with the official name Liga 2 Casa Pariurilor. Format Divisions Since its inception in 1934, Liga II had between 2 and 9 parallel divisions, with clubs divided based on geographic regions. Generally, Seria I included eastern teams while Seria II included western sides, although clubs near the center of the country are allowed to choose in which series they will compete. The first six teams from each series participate in a play-off for potential promotion to Liga I. The teams placed from 7th to 12th will play a relegation play-off, where the last two teams are relegated to Liga III. Clubul Sportiv Municipal Roman, commonly known as CSM Roman, is a Romanian professional football team of the multi-sports club, CSM Roman from Roman, Neamț County, Romania. The team was founded in 1954 under the name of ''Laminorul Roman'' and was dissolved in 2018, due to poor results. The football section was re-founded in 2021 and enrolled in the Liga IV. History CSM Roman was founded in 1954 as ''Laminorul Roman'' by the syndicate of the Întreprinderea de Țevi Roman (Roman Pipe Enterprises, currently Mittal Steel) and played for twenty years in the regional and county championship. UM Timișoara was a Romanian professional football club from Timișoara, Romania, founded in 1960 and dissolved in 2008. History The football team of ''Uzinele Mecanice Timișoara'' was founded in 1960, playing in the first years of its existence in the Ronaț neighborhood on the field that would later become the Stadionul Gheorghe Rășcanu. The club managed to promoted in Divizia C at the end of the 1966–67 season, when it won the Banat Regional Championship and the play-off for promotion against Aurul Brad, the winner of the Hunedoara Regional Championship. Clubul Sportiv Orășenesc Plopeni, commonly known as CSO Plopeni, or simply as Plopeni, is a Romanian amateur football club based in Plopeni, Prahova County. The club was originally established in 1947 under the name of ''Metalul Plopeni''. Metalul merged with ''Rapid Mizil'' in 1967, was enrolled directly in the third tier and was for decades a constant presence at the level of Liga II and Liga III. In 2004 the club was dissolved due to financial difficulties and re-established only in 2006, after two years of inactivity, this time under the name of ''Intersport Plopeni''. Despite its good financial conditions for the fourth level, Intersport failed to promote in the next three years, then in 2009 the football club was included as a section of the multi-sport entity CSO Plopeni. FC Sportul Studențesc, commonly referred to as Sportul is a Romanian professional football club based in Bucharest, that last played at senior level in the Liga IV. Founded in 1916, Sportul Studențesc was one of the oldest Romanian clubs still active. The club's best European performance came in the 1979–80 Balkans Cup, when it won the trophy, defeating Yugoslavian side NK Rijeka in the final. The club made it to the Balkans Cup final on one other occasion, in 1976, when it lost to another Yugoslavian side, Dinamo Zagreb. FCM Târgoviște
Fotbal Club Municipal Târgoviște (), commonly known as FCM Târgoviște, was a Romanian football team based in Târgoviște, Dâmbovița County, founded in 1948 and disbanded in 2018. FCM Târgoviște, which throughout history bore several other names, amassed nine appearances in the Divizia A, the highest tier of the Romanian league system, and their best result in the competition was finishing seventh in the 1978–79 campaign. FC Drobeta-Turnu Severin was a Romanian professional football club from Drobeta-Turnu Severin, Mehedinți County, Romania, founded in 1958 and dissolved in 2011. History ''FC Drobeta-Turnu Severin'' was never able to reach the Liga I, playing all of its history in the Liga II and the Liga III.
