The Eighth Mother of all Battles Championship ( ar, بطولة أم المعارك الثامنة), commonly referred to as the 1998 Iraqi Elite Cup ( ar, كأس النخبة العراقي 1998), was the eighth occurrence of the Iraqi Elite Cup, organised by the Iraq Football Association. 1997–98 Iraqi Premier League
The 1997–98 Iraqi Premier League was the 24th season of the competition since its foundation in 1974. For the first time in the competition's history, there were three teams that were in contention for the title on the last day of the season: Al-Quwa Al-Jawiya, Al-Shorta and Al-Zawraa. Al-Quwa Al-Jawiya were playing Al-Zawraa on the final day (22 May) at the same time as Al-Shorta played Al-Sulaikh. Al-Quwa Al-Jawiya needed a win to guarantee the title, whereas Al-Shorta needed Al-Quwa Al-Jawiya to lose or draw and needed to win their game in order to win the league. Al-Zawraa needed to beat Al-Quwa Al-Jawiya and needed Al-Shorta to draw or lose their match if they wanted to clinch the title. Razzaq Farhan Mussa ( ar, رزاق فرحان موسى; born 1 July 1974) is a former Iraqi footballer and Olympic athlete who is currently the assistant manager of the Iraq national football team. Razzaq Farhan is an instinctive goalscorer, whose speed in thought and deed makes up for his size and power. The Al-Quwa Al-Jawiya forward scored 24 goals in 60 games for the Iraqi national team after making his debut against Lebanon. Farhan has played for several professional clubs, including Qatar Sports Club and Al-Faisaly (Amman). Al-Najaf Sports Club ( ar, نادي النجف الرياضي) is an Iraqi professional football club based in Najaf. They are members of the Iraqi Premier League. Al-Najaf has competed in the 2007 AFC Champions League. Al-Zawraa Sports Club ( ar, نادي الزوراء الرياضي) is an Iraqi sports club based in Utayfia, Karkh District (near Tigris River), Baghdad. Their football team compete in the Iraqi Premier League, the top-flight of Iraqi football. Al-Zawraa are the most decorated club in Iraq having won 14 Premier League titles, 16 Iraq FA Cups and 5 Iraqi Super Cups, all national records. Al-Zawraa also won the Iraqi Elite Cup a joint-record 3 times.
