The 1998 Croatian Bol Ladies Open was a women's tennis tournament played on outdoor clay courts in Bol in Croatia that was part of Tier IV of the 1998 WTA Tour. It was the fifth edition of the tournament and was held from 27 April to 3 May 1998. Mirjana Lučić won the singles title. WTA Tier IV Tournaments
The WTA Tier IV tournaments were Women's Tennis Association fourth-level tournaments held from 1990 until the end of the 2008 season. The line-up of events varied over the years, with tournaments being promoted, demoted or cancelled. Clay Court
A clay court is one of the types of tennis court on which the sport of tennis, originally known as "lawn tennis", is played. Clay courts are made of crushed stone, brick, shale, or other unbound mineral aggregate depending on the tournament. The French Open uses clay courts, the only Grand Slam tournament to do so. Clay courts are more common in Continental Europe and Latin America than in North America, Asia-Pacific or Britain. Two main types exist: red clay, the more common variety, and green clay, also known as "rubico", which is a harder surface. Laura Montalvo (born 29 March 1976) is an Argentine former professional tennis player. Montalvo won eight ITF singles titles and reached a career high of No. 191 in singles in June 1995. Her win–loss record for singles is 143–76, 266–152 for doubles. Being a "doubles specialist" on the WTA Tour, she reached the ranking of No. 23 in doubles in May 2001. Paola Suárez (; born 23 June 1976) is a retired tennis player from Argentina. She was one of the most prominent women's doubles players throughout the early and mid-2000s, winning eight Grand Slam titles, all of them with Virginia Ruano Pascual, and holding the No. 1 doubles ranking for 87 non-consecutive weeks. She was also a singles top ten player and semifinalist at the 2004 French Open. Career Suárez began playing professional tennis at the age of 15. Tennis is a racket sport that is played either individually against a single opponent ( singles) or between two teams of two players each ( doubles). John Barrett (tennis)
John Edward Barrett, (born 17 April 1931) is a former tennis player, television commentator and author. He was born in Mill Hill, North West London, the son of Alfred Edward Barrett, a leaf tobacco merchant, and Margaret Helen Barrett (née Walker). He had one sister, Irene Margaret Leppington (1925–2009), a research chemist. His father had the rare distinction of having played both for Leicester Tigers RFC as a wing three-quarter and for Leicester Fosse FC (the former Leicester City) as a wing half. Biography Educated at University College School in Hampstead, he was a prominent British junior tennis player and won the National Schoolboy title in 1948. Corina Morariu
Corina Maria Morariu (born January 26, 1978) is an American former professional tennis player. Morariu (pronounced: mo-RA-R'ju) was born in Detroit, Michigan and is of Romanian descent. She turned professional in 1994. Mainly known as a doubles specialist, she won the women's doubles title at Wimbledon in 1999 with Lindsay Davenport. She also won the mixed-doubles title at the 2001 Australian Open with Ellis Ferreira. She reached the Australian Open women's doubles final with Davenport in 2005. She also reached the world No. 1 ranking in doubles in 2000. In 2001, Morariu was diagnosed with leukemia and began a program of chemotherapy. Joannette Kruger (born 3 September 1973) is a former professional tennis player from Johannesburg, South Africa. Her career-high in singles is No. 21 in the world, a ranking she achieved on 4 May 1998. Kruger turned professional in 1989, but it was not until 1992 that she finally broke into the world's top 100. In 1995, she had her breakout season winning her first WTA Tour title in San Juan where she beat Kyoko Nagatsuka in the final.
