Premier A Slovenian Basketball League
The Premier A Slovenian Basketball League ( sl, 1. slovenska košarkarska liga), abbreviated as 1. SKL and known as the Liga Nova KBM due to sponsorship reasons, is the top-level professional men's basketball league in Slovenia. The league, operated by the Basketball Federation of Slovenia, consists of eleven clubs. The most successful team is Cedevita Olimpija with 19 titles. History The league was founded in 1991, shortly after Slovenia's independence from SFR Yugoslavia. Before the independence, the Slovenian Republic League was played as a second or third level of Yugoslav basketball. Olimpija, Ljubljana, Slovan, ŽKK Maribor, Lesonit, and Branik Maribor were the only Slovenian teams that played in the Yugoslav First Federal League. KD Slovan
Košarkarsko društvo Slovan, commonly referred to as KD Slovan or simply Slovan, is a basketball team from Ljubljana, Slovenia. History The origins of the club are dating back to 1951, when Stane Urek suggested a formation of a basketball club in Poljane (KK Poljane), at one of Ljubljana's high schools. The club got its official permission to play on 13 April in the same year. After just two days, they organised their first tournament, at which they invited Rudar Trbovlje and Krka, both playing in the first national league. The team was also named KK Krim, KK Slavija, KK Odred, and finally KD Slovan – the name they have had until today. After having played for more than 20 years on the basketball court at Poljane Grammar School, they moved to Kodeljevo Hall in the 1974–75 season, where they have been playing ever since. Goran Jagodnik
Goran Jagodnik (born 23 May 1974) is a Slovenian former professional basketball player. Professional career During his journeyman career, Jagodnik played for numerous clubs in several countries, most notably with Polish team Prokom Trefl Sopot (four seasons) and Serbian team Hemofarm (two seasons). In his homeland, Jagodnik played with Hopsi Polzela and Union Olimpija. On 3 March 2015, Union Olimpija announced that he had joined the club for training sessions, with an option of signing a deal until the rest of the season. Two days after that, he was added to the team's Adriatic League roster. Slovenian national team Jagodnik was a long-time member of the Slovenian national team, making his debut at EuroBasket 1997. The Helios Suns are a men's professional basketball club based in Domžale, Slovenia. The club competes in the Slovenian First League and the ABA League Second Division. Miljan Goljović (born August 27, 1971) is a retired Slovenian professional basketball player. He was a 2.03 m tall small forward, that was a remarkable talent on offense. Teo Čizmić
Teo Čizmić (born 30 March 1971) is a Croatian professional basketball coach and former player, currently serving as the sport director at KK Split. Playing career Čizmić started playing professional basketball in 1988 with Split-based team Jugoplastika. He won three EuroLeagues, and played with the famous Croatian players Velimir Perasović, Dino Rađa and Toni Kukoč on the team. He finished his career as a player with Split in 2006.
