1996–97 Armenian Cup
The 1996–97 Armenian Cup was the sixth edition of the Armenian Cup, a football competition. In 1996–97, the tournament had 24 participants, none of which were reserve teams. Results First round FC Yerevan, Karabakh Yerevan, Pyunik, Van Yerevan, Kotayk, Tsement, Shirak and Ararat Yerevan received byes to the second round. The first legs were played on 1 and 2 October 1996. The second legs were played on 9 and 10 October 1996. Second round The first legs were played on 19, 20 October and 2 November 1996. The second legs were played on 2, 3 and 14 November 1996. Quarter-finals The first legs were played on 26 March 1997. The second legs were played on 8 April 1997. Araks Ararat FC
Araks Ararat FC ( hy, Արաքս Արարատ Ֆուտբոլային Ակումբ), is a defunct Armenian football club from the town of Ararat, Ararat Province. Club history The club was founded in 1960 as FC Ararat to represent the town of Ararat. With the independence of Armenia, the Ararat Cement Factory took over FC Ararat in 1993 and the club was renamed FC Tsement Ararat. They played in the Armenian Premier League and won two titles, the first in 1998 as Tsement and the 2nd in 2000 as Araks Ararat. The following year, Tsement yielded the championship to FC Shirak by two points and ended up on the third spot behind FC Ararat Yerevan. However, after many successful years, the club president ''Abraham Babayan'' was unable to finance the club. Eventually, the rights were sold in late 2000 to a new sponsor based in Yerevan and Araks Ararat FC was dissolved. FC Ararat Yerevan
Football Club Ararat Yerevan ( hy, Ֆուտբոլային Ակումբ Արարատ Երևան), commonly known as Ararat Yerevan, is an Armenian association football, football club based in Yerevan that plays in the Armenian Premier League. Since 1999, the club is owned by the Switzerland Armenian businessmen Vartan Sirmakes. The badge shows a white eagle standing on a football and is a reference to the club nickname. Hrazdan Stadium
Hrazdan Stadium ( hy, Հրազդան մարզադաշտ) is a multi-use, all-seater stadium in Yerevan, Armenia, opened in 1970. Being the largest sports venue in Armenia, Hrazdan was mostly used for football matches. It was the home stadium of the Armenia national football team until 1999 and has hosted the occasional international game since then. The stadium is able to host 54,208 spectators after the most recent reconstruction in 2008, which converted the stadium into an all-seater one. Before the reconstruction, Hrazdan was able to hold up to 70,000 spectators. It was among the top four stadiums of the Soviet Union by its capacity. The stadium hosted the Armenian Cup finals on many occasions, as well as the opening ceremony of the Pan-Armenian Games in 2003. FC Shirak
Football Club Shirak ( hy, Շիրակ Ֆուտբոլային Ակումբ), commonly known as Shirak, is an Armenian professional sports club based in Gyumri. Shirak is known for its professional football team which is one of the oldest football clubs in Armenia, having been created in 1958. The club is the only team that participated in all seasons of the Armenian Premier League since its creation in 1992 until 2021. Shirak is one of the more successful clubs in Armenia, having won a total of 11 domestic titles including four Armenian Premier League titles, two Armenian Cup, and five Armenian Super Cup. Shirak has yet to qualify for an international tournament playoff round, yet frequently plays UEFA Champions League and UEFA Europa League qualifying matches. FC Kotayk
FC Kotayk ( hy, Ֆուտբոլային Ակումբ Կոտայք) is a defunct Armenian football club from the town of Abovyan, Kotayk Province. History Founded in 1955, Kotayk was one of the oldest football clubs in Armenia. After playing several years in the Armenian SSR League as well as the Soviet First League, Kotayk made their debut in the Armenian Premier League in 1992. They participated in the European Cups for the first time in 1996–97. In the UEFA Cup Winners' Cup winning 1–0 at home against AEK Larnaca from Cyprus. After losing the 2nd leg away from home with a result of 0–5, they were eliminated. However, the club was dissolved in 2005 due to both financial and non-financial shortcomings. FC Van Yerevan ( hy, Ֆուտբոլային Ակումբ Վան Երևան), is a defunct Armenian football club from the capital Yerevan, founded in 1990. History This club is named in honor of the Armenian historic city of Van, which was once the capital of the Urartu Kingdom. The club participated in the first Armenian soccer championship, which took fifth place overall. During the six seasons the club has always participated in the Premier League. Lernayin Artsakh FC ( hy, Լեռնային Արցախ Ֆուտբոլային Ակումբ) is an association football club based in unrecognized Stepanakert, Artsakh Republic but is registered in the town of Sisian, Syunik Province, Armenia. The club was founded in 1927 in Soviet Azerbaijan and its current name translates from Armenian as "''Mountainous Artsakh''". FC Yerevan ( hy, Ֆուտբոլային Ակումբ Երեւան – Futbolayin Akumb Yerevan) was an Armenian professional football club from the capital Yerevan. History FC Yerevan played in the Armenian Premier League and won the 1997 title. It was founded in 1995 and lasted for five years. It played its home matches at the Hrazdan Stadium.
